Greetings all

Here’s a recent arrival from Dave Kelly that I finally had a chance to photograph.

I’ve been fortunate to have picked up a few pieces from Dave over the years. Health issues have significantly limited his output, but when he’s able to complete a knife, I know from experience that it will be VERY well executed with tremendous attention to detail.

This hunter is no exception.

The specs are as follows:

* 5” clay quenched blade of 1084, overall length a shade over 10”
* Red Mallee burl hande
* Blued mild steel guard with textured copper spacers

The handle is beautifully contoured and the wood is rich in both figure and colour.

The attention to detail is found in repeating aesthetic elements throughout the knife. The texture of the copper spacers is repeated on the face of the guard. The warm copper of those spacers is repeated in the copper thong tube. And even the mild steel pins have been blued to match the guard.

Dave’s pic captures something I forgot to shoot: the nice little thumb ramp – which is the ONLY type of filework I want on the spine of a knife:

Dave is not just the only maker I would say can turn out a Paul Long quality sheath – he is the only person in respect of whom I would make that comment. The first person to tell me this was Paul himself. It’s definitely a big bonus to be able to have a sheath of that quality accompany every knife at no extra charge. Though as it happens, this particular sheath IS by Paul Long.

This knife has a stout and solid feel that belies its slender lines. It would make a terrific “do everything” knife to have on your for hunt, hike, camp or whatever the occasion might be.

Great knife, solid value, happy customer – thanks for everything Dave.

Damn, Roger, you certainly are on a roll with new acquisitions.
This certainly is a nice one.
I like the new background, as well.

Just missed one of Dave's pieces in the Knifemaker's forum - too bad really - as he builds beautiful knives.

Shall I PM you a list of your knives I want?
Easy enough, that would be all of them :D

Enjoy it in good health!

^^ That stag and damascus number was a honey - and sold fast.

Michael - you may want to drop Dave a line and see what else might be on deck. ;)

Good pick-up.

Roger visited on the weekend and we had our usual fantastic time with his knife show and tell. The Kelly is a very nice hunter. I love the copper -- partial to it in fact. Dave did some nice things with his embellishments to the spine and the copper spacers.

MS you can send a list but just make sure there is nothing on it I want ok.

I always enjoy our little knife shows and Roger always has neat stuff for Phyllis and I to look at and the Kelly was one of the latest. This one would be a great user. Substantial and slick all in one.

Very nice style and clearly well executed. Clean yet very sutle complexities of color and texture that really blend together well. Fantastic! Congrats.

Congrats Roger !
Count me in as another one diggin' the copper accents on the guard,
as well as the light blueing on the guard and pins.
Very nice sheath as well.
Great grab on this one.

I really admire Dave Kelly's knives. His embellishments are subtle yet beautiful. Congrats on that lovely piece.

That is a stunner Roger. I really like how the neutral guard separates the elegant handle and the all business blade. Congrats.

Dave does great work steel and leather wise a true gentlemen

congrats on a very nice knife and sheath

I really like this, Roger. Dave has really made this hunter a special one. A lot of attetion to detail. The textured copper even seems to pattern the figure in the wood. Well done!

The sheath adds a ton. Wonderful package.
