Anyone ever seen a 301 with red scales? It's a 1989, I bought it mint in box today for $12.00 I can't find anything on the net about it. I'll post pix in a bit.

buckman,

Buck made red handled versions of several 300 series knives. They were in the catalogs for 1990, 1991, and 1992. I would say you got your knife at a real bargain.

Here it is, took it on the wife's vanity lol

Nice Buckman, at first I thought red bone, which I have, I've never seen that one. Is it saw cut like the normal black 300's

Bert, answered your specific question.

I am taking a break from TV football before I go blind. I must hustle back and watch a program with "Red" Birds in it. A sports day where I accomplished little, but lets give you this. I think we are already behind so I won't hurry.

There are three scaled families of 300s. One that is saw cut and one that is smooth. Smooth came first, then sawcut. Early smooth scales will have brass liners. But, the three blade stockmen, (301 and 303), will have only two springs in the smooth as per early eighties models. Shields are knife, bolt and hammer. The odd ball here is the 309 Red sawcut. If any were ever made, I haven't seen one.

As mentioned by 375 there is also 'Red' jigged bone four knife series models. They will be reddish jigged bone with knife, bolt and hammer shields. Also a couple of imported models.

Your purchase of a good shaped Red 301 needs to be written down as a great find, then when you find another version you want and it is $35 you can average them together and call it good..........300Bucks

Opps, there is also a scaled red clipper, have you seen them with the small scissors. On the BCCI website there is a model description written on 'them'. Yes, there were a very rare few made with sawcut scales.

Smooth scales

Sawcut scales

This is the fancy engraved bolster Redbones. $$$$$ They come in regular also.

This shows you difference in the Clippers, newest and rarest (sawcut)has Wenger made scissors.

Dave, it is the same delrin, but it does not have the lines like the black 300s. It's smooth instead.

300, thanks for the info. I have two of the red one cases. Picked them up for a dollar! Sadly no red one bucks :( I've seen yellow saw cut delrin that's it. I've also only seen one 305 with the scissors.

300Bucks, those red bones look terrific and probably the best looking 301 I've ever seen. Putting the fancy bolsters aside, I would love to see Buck do an affordable run of red or chestnut bone handles on the 301 and 303.

I wish they would do another run of red sawcut delrin.

Red, red, I want red. There's no substitute for red.

There have been several threads on yellow scale 300s. You can use the search box above for them.

Yellows come in more variety than reds. Some were made by Camillus, a few by Buck, most sold only by SMKWs.

Well, I guess that explains that hole in my collection..... I've been watching for one forever........
