Can anyone provide some background information on this 8OT I just acquired ?

It has nice smooth red scales, which may be bone or Delrin, not sure...
a nice Old Timer shield and a serial number? of 1421 stamped on the bolster.

Is it anything special ?

It is very nicely finished and it is in mint condition, the only blemish is a small mark on the main blade. Tang stamp is Schrade NY USA

hi, there was a similar question awhile back in this forum about a 108 schrade like this, and i found an add for them in a mid 90s smkw catalog. They were a set of 3 an 8ot 34ot andthe 108.Search this forum about them it was earlier this year ,thanks

hi, these were talked about under the thread titled the mini stockman from 4/24/06and i found them in a 1986 smkw catalog.

Thanks,

I will take a look.

I am grateful for all the information I can get.

I only started out on the Schrade thing about a year ago, but I look in on this forum most days, just to see what I can learn.

This is an amazing forum, thanks to everyone for such a good source of information and really interesting history that just keeps flowing.

I now have a couple of dozen Old Timers and Uncle Henrys and a few Imperials and Frontier Powderhorns, all of which I really like.

I think there are only two or three people in the UK who collect Schrades....

but I may be wrong.

tthman,

I can now confirm that what you recalled is absolutely correct .

Yes, this knife is from 1985 or 1986 and the scales are red bone.

thanks very much.

That red bone looks like it may have been leftover/extra from the Heritage series in the early 80s...

Maybe a special run for SMKW?

Looks like a nice knife, in any event.

My 8OT is 4" closed.

From the moment I opened the package, I was confused by the red bone... thinking it cannot be a Heritage series, because of no fluted bolsters and no blade etching.

But it is a nice 8OT....

it was a very lucky buy, because the photo on ebay was very blurred and it was not described as red bone...and the shield was invisible. I am very pleased with it.

all I wanted was a 8OT user !

but I got another 8OT Senior carbon user anyway.... with Canadian papers - in French and English, if anyone wants these I can send 'em or scan 'em in for all to see.

The carbon steel is just easier and quicker to sharpen.

I like the stainless as well, but you have to be a bit more careful with sharpening to avoid scratching the blade.
