I have seen and have just bought a case with a red colored shield does the red signify anything special?

What model is the knife?
Does it have a sparkly look to it?
Are the covers white?
If so, then there's nothing special about it, but it'll do some work.
Edit: Now that I can see it, it's a nice, newer Case, but not rare or special as far as i know.

The 'Red Shield' series was just one in a long line of shield/pattern variations over the years. I don't think there's a significance to it, beyond that. I like the look of it. Here's one I have, a 5344 SS 'Red Shield' Stag Stockman (2007 stamp), alongside a vintage Peanut in stag (1970):

Those are some great looking knives David thanks. I believe my red shield is a 2007 as well.

Thank you Paul. I was fiddling with the camera one day, comparing attributes of some of my smaller knives, and just thought those two looked good together. :)

Enjoy your knife, it's a good-lookin' one too.

I have a red shielded pen knife from Case. Nothing special about the red shield as far as I know. Just something to make the knife look nicer to justify a higher price. And it does look nice.

I wish mine was well-finished as it is good looking.

Yes it is a very good looking pen I like it a lot. The fit and finish on case is getting better but I still only buy knives I can see and handle especially stag. I looked at six before I picked this one. The first three had really mismatched handle sides the others looked good but the fit and finish was fairly poor. Finally found this one after looking for about six months. Fortunately the searching is one the best parts for me.

I don't care for the red shield with bone but it looks pretty to my eyes with stag!

That combination might've been something that attracted me to it, when I bought mine. I think it's interesting that, so far in the thread, all of the examples posted in pics are stag. I had to Google a bit today, to remind myself that the red shields were also offered with other handle materials. Lots of them in blue jigged bone too.

I think the red shield looks good on the blue bone and on the white Sparxx as well. I know they've used it on other series as well. I don't think it is particularly value enhancing, but it looks good on most knives I've seen it used on. They are using it on the newer gray sparxx series as well, but it doesn't look as good on that series. IMO.

The different shields are a marketing gimmick. For pattern collectors, the red shield is another variation that they now have to buy.

That's my biggest complaint against Case. They aren't alone in the marketing gimmick area though.
