One of my suppliers has some redbud, but I never worked with it. Wood Database has no information other than genus and species.

So all I know is the straight grain has some nice colors in it, and also somebody online said it was a "greasy" wood, so they finished it with boiled linseed oil and paste wax.

I tried some dead redbud stumps which after cutting and sanding a few blanks revealed a pretty much featureless wood. I was not impressed with it. Your mileage may vary.

It is hard and dense. Some has nice figure. It burls heavily when it gets old. Looks a bit like desert ironwood to me. Should work fine for knife scales. I would suggest working it like DI.
