I have a gift card to Bass Pro that I'm looking to burn and had a question about the Stag handled Redhead Pro Series Skinner. The site states its 420C steel but I have read here in the forums that it may have 154CM steel with BOS heat treat, anyone know which it is, did they make both? Thanks for the help and guidance, Trevor~

Thanks Dave, I'm going to head out tomorrow to my local Basspro and take a look. The guy on the phone said he didn't see a BOS stamp but who knows, I'll check for myself. You no longer have the knife, any functional reason you parted ways with the knife? Thanks, Trevor~

I still have it, but finding it in all my stuff is another story. :o I also have the one with the G-10 handle but it's 420HC I presume since it doesn't have the Bos 154CM stamp.

That's a good project for me. Locate and take pictures of the stag model. I just realized that I've never done that.

Functional? I don't know, I've never used either one for anything. :)

I think someone posted a photo of that model and I liked it . Plumber, I wait on your photo to see . DM

:( I'm having an issue with finding it. I don't recall if it came in the original box when I got it and so far I haven't found it. The next step :barf: Is to go through every box to see if it's got put in a box with the label for something else. Yikes, it would be easier to just buy a new one!

FOUND IT!

You can see the Bos 154-CM etch. I included a picture of it with a 110 to show it's size.

I went to Basspro today and handled the knife. It's pretty sweet, feels nice in my hand and it did have the BOS 154CM steel. I'm going to hold off for a bit and see if they have any sales coming up, they want $129 for it right now. Thanks for the pics Dave. Trevor~

At-a-boy, Plumber . I knew you'd come thru with it . Trev, that may seem a bit steep but with a stag handle and that steel I think its in line . Plus, if you like it, thats the only place to purchase one . Check on Buck's custom site and see what a stag handled 110 will run you then you'll have something to compare it with . DM

Don't push me over the edge Dave! I was a good boy on budget and fought off my compulsive behavior of buying what I want right when I want it:D I know it's good for what I want, I've been eyeballing stag handled Bucks and with premium steel they don't run cheap. Heck, the G10 handled one is 420C steel and it runs $99, so $30 you can upgrade to stag and 154CM steel, that's a no brainer to me. I'm just hoping to see a sale soon or find an online coupon for $20 off $100 or something, then somehow in my demented brain I'll justify it to myself.... Either way I'll end up with the knife, as long as they don't run out:eek:

The reason I had a hard time locating it is because it comes in a black Limited Edition box that's the same size as they use for the 119 LE's. Dang, that's a lot of box for a small knife! It just hadn't occured to me to check out the big boxes. :o

Didn't mean to cause a rift, over something as important as one knife, Trev . Heck, get two . Dave, thanks for looking until you found it . What length is the blade on this model ? It looks to be the same as the 110 just less handle . DM

I measure it at 3 9/16" to the longest point.

Exactly, the custom shop Alpha Hunter with 154-CM, Elk handles and a leather sheath is $152.50.

I'm pretty sure that one is 420C. I was at Basspro today and handled both the Stag and G10 models, though I did not ask to see the walnut model. The stag is for sure a 154-CM while the g10 is 420C. I would be willing to bet that the cheapest model they have will not be their premium steel. I'm having non-buyers remorse...lol. I probably won't be able to wait until a sale and I'll be back out there in a weekend or two. Thanks guys for the info!

A bit of an update and added confusion regarding this model. I broke down and decided go buy the Stag handled Pro series. I get to the store and look at the display model again and tell the clerk I'll take one. He goes into a drawer and pulls out a nice black box. He opens it up and says that he wants me to take a look at it and make sure I'm happy with it since it will be a bit different than the one on display. Now I'm thinking that he he is referring to the stag having unique characteristics but to my surprise it no longer has the Buck mark, date mark or the 154CM Bos mark. The only markings on the knife now are "Red Head Pro Series" which is on the blade. I asked the clerk if it's still made with 154CM Bos and he said that he didn't know. I checked all papers and the box but nothing indicates the steel of the blade. The BassPro website states 420HC so maybe they switched steels. I shot an email to Joe Houser and hopefully he can clear things up. I talked the clerk into selling me the display model just in case they switched them over to 420HC. Bad thing is they had no box, papers or sheath but I did manage to get them to come down a bit in price. I'll post up any info I get from Joe. Love my new blade, very nice! I'm already eyeballing some other stag handled bucks:D

Was the black box a Buck Limited Edition box? That's the kind mine came in. You don't suppose that there's a different company making them now?

Why would Buck leave their name and Bos symbol off if they are still the makers I wonder?

It's definitely still a Buck, has all the Buck paperwork and the box is black and has Buck printed on it. I wonder why they would leave their name off of it as well, glad I picked one up.

Just another point, my Pro Skinner is different than yours Plumber. Mine has Buck U.S.A and date stamp on the right side of the blade and CPM154 Bos on the left side, no other etching or marks on the blade. Different steel than yours? Weird:confused:
