I found another RedHead Pro Series skinner (Buck 922) this week. This one is older and has a 154CM blade while the newer one has a Sandvik 12C27M blade. I believe Buck changed steels on this knife around 2011 when they transitioned from 154CM to Sandvik 12C27M. There were some threads around that time debating the virtues of these steels, but I could not find any that really compared Buck’s 154CM to Sandvik 12C27M. Since it has been a while since this change was made, can anyone with personal experience speak to whether the switch was an upgrade, downgrade, or lateral move? Which steel would you prefer and why?

BTW, it is interesting to read some of the older steel threads when Buck’s Pro level knives were made in s30v. I am sure that people’s opinions have evolved over the past 15-20 years as new knife steels have been incorporated into the Buck line.

Good morning,

I was going through old posts about Redhead 922’s and found this where you posted about having an elk handle 922 with 154cm steel. I looking to buy one of those. If you still have yours and want to sell or know anyone that does I would appreciate it if you would let me know. Thank you.

I tried to send a DM but it wouldn’t allow me. I’m also looking for a 922 with Black G10/micarta handles and one with wood handles that has “Guide Series “ on the blade. Thanks again.

Hi G ghg5 , welcome to the Buck forum. A few things.
1) I don't think you can DM TheFishman because he is not a paid member. ???
2) You can attract the attention of someone you mention in a post by putting an "@" sign before their name... T TheFishman
3) I'll get flamed for this because I'm not a moderator but it is against the rules to conduct business or WTB in the discussion forums, there are other places for that.
.
Good luck in your search though, they are pretty knives. "RedHead" is an in house brand name of Bass Pro.

addendum: It appears there were 4 different 922 handles at one time or another, Elk, G10, Dymondwood, and Burlwood
