"rediscovering" knives you already had?

How many of you have "rediscovered" knives you already had? For instance, I have my knives in a little wooden box. Sometimes, I go through it and look at the ones that I don't use all that often. I found my Buck Mini-Strider 881SP I got a few years ago as a Christmas present from my in-laws. I have started carrying it once in awhile again. It's has a thick blade (a little thicker than I prefer) but sharpens up nicely, lock is solid, and I don't worry about abusing it. I mean, the thing is built like a tank so I doubt I'll ever use it to the point of failure. Though it has a pocket clip, it carries pretty well just dropped inside my pocket too.

Anyway, just making conversation and would like to hear what knife or knives you have "rediscovered".

I'm editing this to add that I'm a slipjoint guy. I always carry a Victorinox Rambler on my keychain and a Tinker (or Super Tinker) in the same pocket as my keys. Not only that, but I usually carry a 4" Boker Stockman in my other pocket. Just kind of came to rediscover the Buck Mini-Strider again.

Knifes I quit carrying for a long time and then at some point rediscovered and began to carry again:

Large Ritter Grip - About 5 times so far
Small Ritter GRip - on the second round with this one
SAK Farmer - twice so far
SAK Settler - 3 times I think so far
LEatherman Wave - about 4 times so far
Leatherman Squirt P4 - twice i think so far ... maybe three times actually
CRK Large Sebenza - about 5 times so far
CRK Shadow 3 - Twice so far
BM806D2 - Twice so far
BM310 - Twice so far
BM941 - twice so far

Man when I look back on this list it sure looks like a lot of indecision on my part. :):D

i was carrying all Dalton autos for a while, but i rediscoverd the joy of two knives: my Spydie 93mm Rescue and Spydie g10 Navigator. all function, no flash.

probably going to start rotating back to my belt dangling puukos as well.

A Wenger SAK, an Old Timer 34OT, and an old Imperial rope knife.

I had stopped carrying my SAK (Wenger Handyman) because it was too bulky and uncomfortable in jeans, but recently I made a home-made belt sheath for it, and it is part of my EDC.

The Old Timer had gotten dull, and I just now got around to sharpening it.

And the Imperial was in a dresser drawer, forgotten, when I found it, oiled and sharpened it.

Having mislocated my smaller chisels in the garage somewhere, I turned to one of my beater Ka-Bar leather handled USMC knives I have floating around the house so that I could pry off some baseboards and rip up the carpet in the living room.

When I used it all day to pry and the tip didn't immediately break off, nor the blade explode, and the wimpy little stick tang didn't bend in my hand like the wire of a paper clip, and after I cut up the carpet into more manageable disposal sizes without resharpening, I asked myself why I ever spend more than $50 for a "tougher" fixed blade utility knife.

I have never yet used a knife as a climbing piton and I have proper machetes and axes for chopping. The F/UK is not a great skinner or anything, but I suddenly doubt my desire for a friend's Battle Mistress he is offering to sell me.

Definitely a moment for reflection in how much I and others get sucked in by the "latest & greatest."

For a while I didn't like my SAK Huntsman, but then one day decided to carry it, and found out that I actually liked it pretty well. Well, a couple of months later, I love that knife and carry it all the time. I find it has the right balance of tools and comfortable size.

Mine would have to be the Microtech Mini Socom I bought in 1999. The fit and finish is delicious!

Used to be a Spydie Delica, then a Delica 4. Still love the size and slicing ability, but I found out how slippery FRN gets when my hands are wet or have oil on them and the flat handle didn't give me enough grip for the tougher cuts I have to make in a warehouse / camp setting. So, I went back to my Ritter mini-RSK for a pocket carry and a full-sized RSK for belt wear around a campsite or on a trail.

Just to cover my ___, I also picked up a mini-Strider from Buck. That one is getting more carry time than anything else now. I don't mind the weight since I started out packin' their Folding Ranger years ago, and the thickness and grippiness of the G-10 handle is a real plus for me. I would prefer S30V for the blade steel, but ATS-34 / 154CM is not a bad choice for my use, just a tad more difficult to resharpen.

My Buck 110 spends most of its time in the top drawer, but occasionally it gets to come out and play, and I'm always glad when I have reason to use it. I'm just infatuated by my newer blades right now.

the one that comes to mind most for me is a wenger handyman. this sat in a case for a while, my only SAK at the time, and while it sat i EDC'ed mid-grade folders like benchmade and spyderco, and some higher grade like CRK sebenza. i started carrying the handyman because i like the idea of the scissors and toothpick... and now i EDC some kind of SAK almost daily. i am a SAKoholic :) i don't carry the handyman everyday, but it helped my discover the SAK and it's daily usefullness.

good thread to start, btw :)

I have that same model and I find it pretty comfy for pocket-carry. Doesn't bother me, I wear slightly loose-fitting jeans. Do you have pictures of the sheath you made? I'd like to see it.

For me it's my CRKT M18 folder. It's a nice knife and I've never had anything about it that dissatisfied me...it's just once I got my delica I never really looked towards it again for my small folder EDC. It's been a SAK and a Delica, or just one or the other. Lately I've been bringing the CRKT out and I like the way the flipper functions as a guard, the ergos are wonderful and it's a very sturdy liner lock compared to others I've used.
