Rediscovering knives...

Seems like I go in and out a phases about every month or so. One month is all Sebenza, next month all SNG... Month after that a small fixed blade IWB and a slippie in the watch pocket, then Spydercos... Then who knows.. :D

I was crazy about the Para a while ago, then one day I put it down and started carrying other knives. Long story short, my D2 Para has been riding in my pocket the past couple days. :D Feels nice, and makes me wonder why I ever stopped carrying it.

Rediscovering knives is almost like finding a new knife, what knives have you "rediscovered?"

710.

I got the military and I neglected the benchmade for a while then I held it in my hands again and I remembered that though my collection of benchmade knives has shrunk signifigantly over the last year (though it seems to be growing again lol) I always kept my two 710s for a reason.

I think Im going to have to get a para military though. I just wish I could get it in s30v with the green handle.

Rediscovering knives you own is a very good thing... It's much cheaper than discovering new knives you don't own!!!

I think whenever you get over the honeymoon of a new arrival you rediscover your "keepers" for the same reasons that made them keepers in the first place. Then you often wonder why you ever bought that new knife in the first place.

The saga repeats itself over and over...

That's why you, of all people, should never take a pledge of fidelity to one knife, again.

It's the Magpie syndrome, see something shiny, drop what you are carrying, & go pick it up.

It is another reson to never sell, just store them and one day, Voila, you've discovered them again.

You have to remember, there was a perfectly rational reason you acquired them in the first place, then they become a bit stale. Next thing you know you find this former treasure & a neuron fires and you are back with your infatuation.

I'm glad you like the D2 Para & I miss it. Lesson learned again by me.

To answer your question, I'm back with my BG-42 Military, seems like it's the one I keep comparing the others to. Ruff Cobb

I had 12 production folders up until about a month ago. I decided I wanted to get a custom folder, so I sold 9 of the 12, with the proceeds going towards the custom. Or so I thought.

After looking at customs for several weeks, I simply couldn't pull the trigger on one. I ended up with sellers remorse, and wanted a couple of the ones I sold back more than I wanted the new custom.

I have only replaced one so far, and that was a BM Grip. I walked into a knife store on the way home one day, saw it, held it, and said I'll take it. AS So-Lo put it, its one I have rediscovered.

Man, can I relate to you on this one So-Lo !!!

I have many bigger things to worry about, so why do i worry almost every day as to what damn knife I want to carry:confused:

Ruff Cobb, you nailed it:thumbup:... and I'm just glad I've kept plenty to rotate, even though it does drive me a bit nuts at times:p

It's funny you asked, and part of this is financial since I can't afford customs anymore but can still own a small handful of old classics to keep me happy:

OLD SCHOOL Benchmade Emerson/Benchmade CQC-7s!

Also, the old Benchmade AFCK liner locks!

I've rediscovered the old G-10-over-titanium-linerlock-tactical Heyday and I'm HAPPY!

I wish I could have been around to get one of the original elishwitz strykers =/

The 913 is cool but if I could get it in manual I would freak the **** out trying to order 5 of them.

I shelled out $$$ for my first custom that was built to be my perfect EDC---and I absolutely love it. BUT, for the last two weeks I've been alternating between a Spyderco Caly 3 and a Mcusta Tactility to carry to the office. They both have cool lowrider clips that resemble having a pen clipped to your pocket, and they are both pretty ergonomic.

Do I still love my custom? Yes, I still think it's my favorite knife, but that doesn't mean I can't enjoy a little variety now and again.

I have made one little carry decision: I am standardizing on tip-up carry only. It gets to be too difficult to fumble around with the knife in your pocket trying to remember how you are supposed to grab it. I have sold off most of my tip down knives except for a couple that are too sentimental to get rid of. I have decided to either reserve them for occasional use around the farm or to have the clips flipped.

Ebay, baby! There are some up there right now for well under $100. I almost bid on them, but the only tantos I really like are the Emersons that are flat on the back, Cold Steel fixed blades, Eddie Baca customs, and the long-discontinued Spyderco Lum Tanto.

Rediscovering knives is almost like finding a new knife, what knives have you "rediscovered?"

My Caly 3 is still my normal EDC, but I'm also rediscovering the value of my Paras. I even bought another D2 Para after selling off 2 of them because I didn't think I'd use them. Now I'm hunting for a D2 Millie as a b/u for my S30V Millie.

But the things I'm really starting to rediscover and like are Case slippies and small BRK FBs. In fact, I've put together a new EDC combo to try out. I'm using a BRK FB and a Case Trapper together in a pocket sheath that holds both knives. The small FB is a real pleasure to use. Just pull, cut, and replace. No opening/closing, no worries about pivot adjustments or dirty locks, and a 2.5" or 3" FB fits in my front or back pocket as well as a Para.

I'm even starting to like BRK's convex grind, even though there's a real learning curve for me in sharpening a convex grind.
