OK, the craftsmanship and "fit and finish" aren't exactly what I'd call top notch. This was more an experiment than anything else. I wouldn't call it a resounding success but I do have a usable sheath for my Muddy MrS now.
Anyway I'm a big pocket-carry type of guy. Belts are for guns and choppers. Not EDC knives. IMNSHO.
What did I start out with?
1) A beat-up leather hat that's too small for my swelled head
2) A crappy leather belt that's separating around the holes
3) The remnants of a Buck/Strider 880SP that locks up like a broken screen door.
4) A Muddy AD that I thought I was making the sheath for
5) A slab of aluminum diamond plate
In the end I looked at some sheathmaking tutorials etc. online and said to myself, "Self, you could do that...and with this junk leather you wouldn't have to dye anything."
So with X-acto knife in hand I impaled my thumb (ouch!) and then cut out the leather parts. I made the clip-side double thick and sandwiched a piece of the diamond plate (milled flat) to it. I riveted the Buck's clip to the plate. I wet-formed the "pretty" side. I cemented everything together and then proceeded to show the world that I'd be a failure as a seamstress.
I originally sized everything for the AD but then realized I had only a few mm extra to get it MrS-sized. The MrS fits perfectly.
Whaddaya think? Perfectly serviceable considering the only thing I had to actually buy was the waxed thread for stitching and a few needles.
Oh, yeah, notice that short row of extra stitching? The knife was pretty loose in the sheath so I tightened it up with those extra stitches. My wife asked what they were for and I told her it was a "husband stitch". She rolled her eyes at me. :foot:
