redoing serrations

My mom has several kitchen knives that she's had for several years and have been resharpened many times. The problem is that one or two times my grandpa got upset at how dull her serrated knives were, so he just went and tried to sharpen them on a whetstone but it completely ruined the serrations and there's only a little bit of serration left and the knife needs sharpened.

Is it possible for somebody (names please!) to regrind the serrations and bring it back to a good knife, or should she just get new ones? I'll post up pics tomorrow.

on kitchen knives that have serrations that arent too bad i can sometimes bring them back. if not i remove the serrations and make it a straight edge knife rather than throw it away.
