Does anyone know what happened to redrummdknives? He did custom stone inlays for predominantly Buck knives that were absolutely stunning. He had a page here on Bladeforums called "Art in Stone," but I see the last activity was in 2018. His page is archived now, and his website no longer exists. I have one of his early pieces, which is a Buck 373 with malachite scales. I used to drool over some of his customized Buck 110s, but never pulled the trigger. I hate to think I missed the opportunity to get one.

Woulda thought someone would know. I checked and there is a private Facebook group page. Says there were 4 posts in the last month. Try signing into that group. The moderators for the group are listed also.

Hop on over to the Sunday Picture Show and share a picture of that Malachite 373.
(shameless self promotion)

I was just reading some of his archived stuff. Thankfully the pictures are still there. He did some cool things. He also was very vocal about other makers using fake stone. I had no idea.

In one thread he posted a picture of himself at age 17 in 1970. So he is still fairly young.

As DeSotoSky DeSotoSky pointed out he mentioned his Facebook page which is still active aparently. In this thread. https://www.bladeforums.com/threads...as-this-hosted-forum-gets-little-use.1545405/

I follow him and have a few of his 110 knives. He is doing mostly series for the BCCI and the knives ain't cheap. The knives are beautiful. I believe he is close to 70 years old. He is trying to make his 4000th knife and then I think he will retire. Check with the BCCI and see if any are available. YES he bought David Yellowhorse and a couple others and drilled into the turquoise and it was a powder same with the others, He even lit the powder on fire. He claimed he uses real turquoise stone that a drill won't make a hole? He used to sell on eBay but a couple guys made a Facebook Page for him and those guys are the moderators. LOL!! He still sells jewelry, earrings and pendants on eBay which I also bought and gave to my nieces for Christmas. They don't wear them. I told them maybe when you get older you will like them. Those were reasonably priced. If I want something I try to go to the source. I needed a new description card and sent HIM an email and he sent a new one. I asked a question of him and the Moderators HA! tried answering it and told I told them I want Mike Hoover to answer because he is the man who knows what he has and doesn't have. Don't get me wrong he is a very nice man and we have known each other for years, well when he was selling on eBay. About 8 years ago.

Thanks for the replies. Glad to hear he's still around. Unfortunately, I refuse to have anything to do with facebook (or any other social media for that matter), so I won't be able to check his page.

As for posting pictures, I am usually on this site when I'm at work and can't do so. In fact, I don't think I've ever posted a picture in my 16 years on Bladeforums! One of these days I will have to remedy that.

Bladeforums IS social media. It’s just “social media for dudes who like knives”.

Try postimages.org for posting pics. Easy as pie.

That depends on your definition of social media. If old school forums like this place are included, then you need to include the bulletin board at the corner store and probably the white board on your refrigerator as well. Bladeforums is far closer in concept and implementation to those than they are to facebook and twitter with their algorithms that control what content is delivered to specific people and what is not.

Thank you for saying this. I was going to post a similar statement but I didn't want it to devolve into an argument. To my knowledge, the internet and Bladeforums have been around longer than the phrase "social media," and though I can see how they might be thought of as social media, I don't consider them as such. I think of social media as Facebook, Twitter, Tik Tok and other such garbage.

I do appreciate AntDog's suggestion to use postimages.org. I checked it out and I might just post some pictures finally after 16 years!

There was an article I read recently somewhere. Maybe even here?

Basically forums are dieing and being taken over by FB and such.

Saying that forums are for old people.

Every hobby evolves.

I read through a bunch of his stuff and he keeps asking for feedback and reactions. He could see there were a lot of views, but not enough posts. He felt he was wasting his time here.

He was craving the attention that FB could deliver.

I have a Case trapper that Mr. Hoover re-scaled in pictured Jasper.

Michael is an interesting fellow, and he detailed for me where he sourced his Jasper, actually doing some hiking if I recall.

This knife was a blister-pack Christmas knife, 2012 I think, from Sam's Club. My wife bought one for my son and one for me that year. Mine had a crack and missing piece of the red bone factory scale, so I contacted Mr. Hoover through socia...I mean The Forum ;^)

I think Michael had a nice Olds 442 convertible of which he used to post pictures occasionally.

By the way, these newfangled message forums killed off listserves....

Yep. Social media is just people talking to each other and sharing info “socially” on the internet. Pretty much what we do here, just with more knife content.

I remember telling my wife “oh crap. Bladeforums is turning into Facebook” when they introduced the “like” button. Whether we like it or not, it meets the literal definition.

Drifting away from the original subject. I did join Facebook a year or so ago not for the social interaction but because I was interested in joining some of the special interest groups relating to Radio Control. Of course I've popped into BCCI. Personally I find searching and sorting thru a lot of information here much easier and threads get a lot more responses. To me it seems subjects go stale quickly on BCCI because of the excess scrolling necessary.

Facebook is to open for anyone to read any persons timeline. I don't want everyone to know what I have to say. I have a Facebook Acct. with only 8 friends and don't post anymore. Lets return to the O.P. question about Michael Hoover.
