I am about to make a sheath for my modified Sus Scrofa and, although I think that the knife is almost right.... the fact that the blade is still longer than the handle is bugging me a bit.

So, Here is the knife at the moment with a 4" handle and a 4 1/2" blade.

And here it is the proposed change roughly marked out with a 4" handle and a 4" blade.

I have posted this as a poll...so hopefully it works.

Yes or No?

Thanks in advance. :)

it all depends on the end use of the knife, and what you personally prefer.

I like the second pic, but if it were a fighter or kitchen knife I'd keep the length.

I voted no, BUT it really dpends... I'd keep it as long as I could comfortably carry for the given situation. I'm guessing it's your EDC, so it ought to be as comfortable as possible. I find that 8" is about my max for a fixed blade EDC, YMMV.

I intend to use the knife for foodwork and woodwork because that's where the Wharncliffe blade excels.

Thanks for the replies... but, does it not look unbalanced to you?

On a knife that size the normal rule is 50/50... (i.e half handle and half blade).... less blade than handle works too.

Busse originally had a longer smasher pommel on the Scrofa to make up the proportions.

:)

Bro---I'd leave it. You're talking 1/2 inch! To me, it looks fine the way it is. Your call.

I voted no, not to mean never, but I like it the way it is.

THe extra inch seems to increase the downward angle giving it more usable slicing area.

IMO:)

Either way , they are both nice:thumbup:

I too also vote NO! I always prefer a longer blade to handle ratio. The same reason why I prefer a thin AD over a cultellus. Of course there are always exceptions. Since this is your personal knife and it bugs you....I would say you should just do it and have your own perfect knife. Everyone has their own opinion about perfect....That is what makes us unique

Ah... but the AD has a 3.5" blade and a 4.38" handle... :)

Well... the deed is done.... I went for more Wharncliffe than Sheepsfoot and it's looking good...to me anyway.

I'll post a photo in a bit.

hehehe.... the AD has slightly longer blade to handle ratio compared to the Cultellus ;)

I should have said Thin FBM over a HOGFSH :p As much blade to handle ratio as possible. I am sure you get my point.

BTW, you like to play with that SS of yours don't yah

The picture of your top mod is about ideal for me. That is what I would do to mine with a slightly pointier tip.

Ok... I'll go with that. :D

The bigger knives have different rules when it comes to proportions.

I think the SS is close now... usually I mod a knife and then use it... this one has been a tweak at a time.

Cheers, Ban. :)

Ok... I leaned the taper back quite a bit more to give a Wharny Wharncliffe and less of a sheepsfoot.

This final mod (hopefully) has really improved the last gripe I had with this knife.

Thanks. :)

What does the custom shop charge per inch of INFI? That should be enough to dissuade you from removing metal! ;)

Hell, like I said you can't go wrong......

well, as long as you are doing the ginding:D:thumbup:

looks good Soup:D
