Here's the latest!
just finished it up last night.
Only problem I've really got with this one was I can't remember what the blade steel was!
I think it's 5160. With 1095 I've usually got a quench line somewhere, and were it W-2 I'm sure I'd have used clay on it.
Those are the main three I've been using lately.
Another blade I'd had sitting around on the bench for a while.
Been using them to get some extra practice in on handles.
Wanting to get better at sculpting in nice curves and I'm quite pleased with how this one went. It's a pain doing it with minimal tools especially the large wheels and such that'd make it easier to do, but I'm figuring how to use my little sander in ways that are making me happy.
Decided to do this one with the handle having a little raised lip like I'd seen others do. I'm liking it.
You're able to finish each part pretty much individually.
You can shape out your spacer how you want it, and then not distort it when trying to blend the handle into it.
If you're using unstabilized wood, this would also help with movement.
Going to have to find me a good source of silicon bronze bar as I think I like the coloring of it a little better, but this does have a nice gold color to it.
Got a bit more of it to go as well.
Blade : 5160 - 8 1/2"
Fittings : Aluminum Bronze
Handle : Stabilized Redwood Burl with Silicon Bronze pin - 5 1/4"
Overall : 13 3/4"
