I've narrowed down my choices for a new Large Regular Wood Inlay Sebenza to the Maple and Redwood Burls. Does anyone have a Redwood Burl, and could they describe it?

Here's a photo of my Maple Burl Small Sebenza with his friend. Both serve as carry peices on dress-up occasions. Yes, I do carry and sometimes even use this knife.

BTW.... The redwood is quite atractive as well.

Sorry if the photo is a bit large but it gives a nice view of the wood.

Here's my redwood burl left hand 2001 small. I like it the best of all the woodies I have. I have a 2000 small left hand curly maple, a 2001 Black walnut with ladder damascus and the 2001 redwood. I sent the curly maple to CRK for a raindrop damascus double thumblug and I sent the redwood in for a double thumblug. I should be getting them back soon!

It's my favorite wood also. :)

Rick's picture looks much closer to the real thing than the picture I posted. My scanning skills have much left to be desired. Again, the redwood is my hands down favorite!

I have a redwood burl Mnandi and dark walnut Sebi. Out of the two I prefer the dark walnut.

My Fav would have to be the very light one desert ironwood? It looks almost yellow.

Daytona, I love the raindrop pattern! It was a real toss up with me to go for that or the spiral damascus. I went for the spiral of course, but I want the raindrop next!:)

Thanks for all the input. I still can't decide, changing my mind twice a day. I like the quiet good looks of the maple burl, but I also appreciate the punchy bright color of the redwood. I refuse to take the easy way out by buying and keeping both. :)

I'm going to ask a seller who stocks both, if he could ship me both a maple and redwood burl, and allow me to return one after I decide.

Thanks for all who posted, especially the pix. My Large Redwood Inlay Sebenza arrived today!

It's gorgeous!

The Redwood Burl is a subtle red, not too garish, with a lot of figure. The wood texture was not "plasticy" like some of the pictures on the Net, and has a texture between plastic and wood, providing a good grip. It also adds a "warm" feel in contrast to the cold titanium of regular Sebenzas.

The inlay's slightly raised surface rounds out the grip geometry, alleviating the flat scale of the Sebenza.

The heft, the warm wood, and perfect fit and finish induces a feeling of invincibility.

Thank you Mr. Chris Reeve for creating such a wonderful tool, and thanks Dad for pushing me to finish college so I could enjoy the good things in life!

Hey Rodmeister

If you regular titanium Sebies feel cold it means you are not playing with them enough :D

Nice choice! If I was seeking a Small, that's the one I'd get. Looks very similar to my new Large, with a lot of figure. The pattern swirls around the spots - reminds me of rocks in a steam bed, and the swirls have depth. Or it could be a Hubble telescope picture of a group of young stars, just forming in a swirl of galactic dust.......er, anyway it's very interesting.

You will enjoy it.

I missed the last part of this thread until now, Shoot, I've been looking at 4435 for a long time.

DaveH,
Sorry - but your loss is my gain.
Get yourself a redwoodie. They are out there and IMHO are the prettiest of the Sebenza woodies.

Thanks to rodmeister, I just found this thread.

All options were open to me and the large "redwoodie" was first and only choice for me. The only trick was finding one with just the right inlays and now I'm the proud owner of a new 2003 large redwoodie.
