I received a call Thursday night to see if I would be interested in putting on a blacksmithing demonstration for the "Military Heritage Festival" at the local historical site, Fort Malden, in Amherstburg, Ontario. It seems they had neglected to locate a smithy and were in a pickle. I had made a few items for a couple of the reenactors in the past, so they called me up. I told them I wasn't really set up to do a "period correct" display but could fake it... lol.

It turned out really well. My LP forge blended in nicely and I spent the day talking to folks about many topics. I spit out the customary S-hooks, penny nails and tent spikes, but also got into knife making, sharpening and leatherwork demos. I did several flint and steel fire lighting demonstrations as well. It was a good experience (my first, on the other side of the rope) and I made lots of contacts for future events and projects.

I think it is colonial..... The horn was knocked off. I think that's what was done to defeated forces to severely cripple the mechanics (smiths and metal workers). It has a JS stamped on the side, but no other markings.
