Hi!
I have for long a time used Reeves grease for all my Sebenzas. I use to take them apart now and then, no problem. But if you use a knife a lot it can be a good thing to just give it more oil without the process taking them down in parts, just wash them give compressed air and some oil. Do you use other type of oils without taking the knife apart?

I've started using just KPL exclusively on them. I'll add a few drops if they feel like they're starting to stiffen up a bit. I think the grease was good early on, but they're so broken in now, they just feel better with just oil.

That's one way to do it, I do it when I'm not in the cleaning mood but still need the knife for work, I do have some knives (not sebenza) that the action has become noticeable gritty because I oil on top and do not clean, so nothing wrong with oiling without disassembly, but you need to clean some of the gunk before applying more.

Anyone know what other fluoridated grease is the same as the Chris Reeve stuff? I read some people mentioned Finish Line Extreme Flouro but then I’ve also read people saying it only lasted a couple weeks before drying out.

Funnily enough I use Reeve grease when I clean old camera lens helicoids. Pretty sure you can do the reverse as well / google camera or telescope lens grease.

That being said, on my CRKs - when broken in and clean, no grease is needed.

Agree with no grease needed... I use mine for lots of food prep, and just a good Rinsing with warm soapy water, leaves the knife ready to go for me,,all models so far.

I've never actually opened a tube of the CRK grease.
I've used Frog Lube paste on all my knives (and firearms) for..shit.. 10+ years.
It's always worked so well, I've never thought to try anything else. 🤷🏻‍♂️

Im pretty reeve grease is just white lithium grease. I've used white lithium grease and they seem to be the same grease types

I reapply grease whenever I take them apart, which may be once a year, if that. In between, if I'm in the garage when I decide a knife needs oiled, it gets Mobil 1. If I'm in the house, it gets gun oil. There's no need to over think it. You're just lubricating a knife joint. If you use your knife for cutting food a lot, you should maybe use mineral oil, because it's non toxic & food safe.

I have no idea when last I took my CRK apart.

Been using Elna sewing machine oil for years. It has worked well on pinned slipjoints as they cant be taken apart.

CRK grease is fluorinated grease:

Couldn't begin to tell you the chemical breakdown difference in fluorinated vs lithium but I know they are different. I mean one must be made of fluoride and one must be made of lithium, right? (joking)

When new, I called CRK to ask how to clean a Sebenza and if oil was needed during routine use. The nice lady told me to clean the knife with hot soapy water and rinse thoroughly. Oil was unnecessary and could attract dirt. The pivot, washers and grease are a “system” and grease was all that is needed. Disassembly, clean and regrease should be done if the blade action indicates a pivot that is dirty or every year or so depending on how hard and dirty the knife’s use is.
