Reeves Double Bit...At Last WOW!!!

It was a long wait, but it was worth it! I ordered a Reeves Nessmuk Style Double Bit axe back in Feb 08. I got it today. It's a beauty. Mr. Reeves told me how long it would be and he was very close give or take a few finger nails on my part. The head is forged with mild (1018) and high carbon (1080) steels. Handle is in Curly Maple. A beautiful leather belt sheath to finish it off. The head is 5.5 x 2.5 with an O/A length of 15".

I'm a tad nervous about using it, though I had the same piece in Osage Orange wood and it was tough as nails! I'm just gonna pamper a bit more it's So Purdy! :D
 
That's a real beauty, thanks for the photos. I ordered mine with walnut handle in April '08 so my delivery date is fast approaching. :D

Check out the difference in the bits. normally Lee makes one a little thicker for rough work and the other thinner for fine work. I have never seen one of his hawks that ever did not have the outstanding handle work. just beautiful.

Mine has the thicker edge on the side closest to the "s" in Lee's forger's mark. Looks from the photos like this one is set up the same way.

You are right about Lee's handle work. I've still got about 10 months to wait on my maple axe but I got impatient and bought one with a Bocote haft on the aftermarket. I just used it at a campout yesterday so it was worth getting early!:D

Thanks for the kind words from everyone. It is a beauty and I just had to show it off. There are a ton of handsome Hawks and Axes in the forum. It feels good to actually own one. I will chopping with it later today it seems. Storms and Big winds gave some downfalls to deal with. Some of it looks perfect for the Reeves. ~kevin~
