Hi i used to contribute on this forum some time ago, i have 2 questions please-
1 How the heck do i post pictures on this site i have sat a good time trying to work this out but failed??
2 My son is a very good horizontal borer, and the company he works for does not mind him slipping a few bits for me through and we have made a few good quality hollow handle clones, i have 2 at the moment one a tanto in 01 and a larger one in D2, the blade profile of the D2 one is a copy of the Randall survival knife, BUT i cannot add pictures!!
My real question is do you people in the US think there is a market for high end hollow handle knives??
Regards Paul.

The hollow handle fad is over. The Randall is still available and probably has the “high quality hollow handle survival knife” niche market covered.

1. You need to upload your photos to a free picture hosting site, such as imgur and copy the photo link using the picture icon, 5th from right at the top of the posting box.
2. The hollow handle "fad" end decades ago. So few factory manufacturers make them now. Maybe Aitor is an exception.
And while there still exists some custom makers who do high end hollow handles, the market is pretty small relative to the entire knife market.
Hope you can show us your knife photos. Where are you making them?

Finally managed to add images, these are as near CRK clones i have seen, the blackened one is in 01, the larger D2. I can get get 01, D2 and D6 in 25mmx50mm bar which is i reckon the size i need, i need to see if it is a viable scheme, i have enough D2 for 6 knives and 01 for two knives, i was nicknamed "the KydexKid" on the now de funked UK site, so could make kydex coats for them, what's a realistic idea from over the pond?? Paul.

Just read the post about the Randall (i have the highest regard for Randall knives) but it is not a one piece hollow handle still joined, i do not wish to start an argument, i have owned a fair few Randall knives quality is superb.

I presume you added your images to imgur. But since we aren't seeing your photos here, you need to liknk them using the photo icon (5h from right at top of posting box) so that they shoow up here.
I had no idea that British Blades went under.

It states my images are awaiting a moderator to approve them, i would do different blade designs of course, like i have a Falkniven S1X

Why would you steal someone else design and think it would be good to sell it?

I am not trying to steal anything at all (look at all the woodlore clones), when i first saw the design back in the eighties i thought a fixed blade design like that would be hard to beat, 40+ years later i still feel the same way, i have not come back to this forum to cause arguments at all, i just wondered if there would be a market for them.

If you want to make and sell expensive hollow handle knives you'll need make your own designs.

The demand is so thin for them that a buyer or collector wouldn't pay a premium for a copy. They'd seek out the original.

Fads aside, I think there will always be a market for quality made knives, sold for a reasonable price, and made in useful, practical designs.

That being said, intentionally copying someone else's designs, and calling them "clones", will greatly reduce demand, and generate criticism. The copying of designs, and the subject of "clones", are two VERY controversial topics in the knife community (at least the part of the community that buys high-end knives).

Referring to your knives as "CRK clones" is about the worst decision you could make if you want to get any traction in the knife community.

Boy oh boy do I miss my hollow handled Chris Reeve's. I should have never sold that thing.
