I'm new to knife collecting and looking for some reference books and materials to help me with my new passion. I would like to cover terminology, history, different uses ect. ect.. What would you recommend?
Thanks,
Dave

These forums have proven to be more helpful than any book that I've seen or heard of.

There are many knife books. D.Darom who posts mostly on the custom forum has wrote about custom knives. The Knives Annual has just come out with Knives 2010. Just do a goggle search and you will come up with dozens. If you're just starting out I recommend The Practical Book of Knives by Ken Warner. Its a little outdated (1970's) but its still got good info. You may be able to get some good used knife books on Amazon. Good luck.

The glossary at A.G. Russell knives has more terminology than you'll ever hear on Bladeforums.
Really, if you just spend enough time here and look up topics as they arise you'll do just as well.

Dave,

There are many greaqt Books in this field, when I was young there was only the Able's Bowie knife catalogs (hardback) and Peterson's book. Now the most important book for a knife Collector is Bernard Levine's Guide to Knives and Their Values, 4th Edition a new one will cost yolu over $100 but used ones can be found and almost as good are the three earlier editions. The book continued after the 4th edition but with out Bernard.
David Dorams books are wonderful art booksw filled with great photos of exotic knives
You might look for issues of The Cutting Edge from Jan 1991 to sometine in 2004. You will find people on this forum who have them and might be willing to sell them.
