Refiguring a Delica tip

After dropping mine tip first accidentally on concrete, I used the Spyderco Sharpmaker to get it back. It took the diamond rods, patience, and salty language but it worked.

The language may not be necessary for everyone, but I admit I lack patience.

I've been kicking around the idea of doing this as well. But I lack the patience too :D SG seems to have the process down pat.

Hi rmeron, that old post of mine that Chris posted is a really simple way to do the mod with no power tools. The Delica blade stock is so thin that it doesn't take long at all with a piece of 60 grit paper. The result will look like it came that way from the factory if you finish the spine with some 180 paper. If you have access to a bench grinder or belt sander, it's a lot quicker but be sure to make long even passes and quench often so you don't get hot enough to ruin the heat treat. Pay special attention to quenching often when working the tip as that thin bit will heat up very quickly.

Grinder is quicker, but sandpaper is pretty much donkey proof. I usually use sandpaper. heheh :D

I did this stretch with a piece of sandpaper on a table top also.

Kind of nifty looking but the sharp angle ended up annoying me a bit once the novelty wore off. I sanded it down and blended the curves and ended up with this. This has become one of my all time favorite Spydercos and the blade mod had a lot to do with that.

I must admit I misunderstood the OP. I thought we were just repairing a damaged tip.

I did not perform an operation like that with my sharpmaker. I'll try to pay better attention next time.

The Stretch IMHO has needed more of a point.

And Surfingringo did it right.

I use a sharpened stone heavy grit then fine grit. If you use a grinder you may grind down too much, go with sand paper & work your way from there, follow Surfgringos advice would be best. Gary
