I have a soft spot for overbuilt knives. I like tools to be tools and feel like tools. Absolute confidence is the game.

However, many such knives have all the appearances, weight, and ergonomics of a brick. I don't feel it's too much to want a tank to look good, too! A touch of class can make a tank a grail.

A few companies have managed it:
Spyderco:
- Vallotton
- Lionspy
- Gayle Bradley

Lionsteel:
- SR1
- SR2

Chris Reeve:
- Basically all of them

Zero Tolerance:
- 0888
- 0801CF
- 0600

Which others do you know of? Speaking strictly of productions, btw.

Didnt we just have a thread about this subject! (rhetorical question alert).

The ones you mention are solidly well made knives.

Its all relative of course (and up to the individual to form his/hers own opinion), but when I hear/read 'overbuilt,' I think of knives like this;

I feel like those transcend "overbuilt" and go right into "laughable" territory.

In my eyes, the Spyderco Native 5 could be viewed as a tank too. Deep setting backlock, thick blade at the tang, thick liners and G10

Totally agree about many of the knives you mentioned, I do feel the Valloton goes somewhat un-noticed when it comes to it's rugged build :o

Elegant Beast seems fitting .

Saw you had the Lionsteel SR, but not the Dendra. Here is my Tiger Jump beside my 0550. The Dendra is an awesome knife. If you haven't given it a look I would recommend doing so.

Sorry for the crappy cell pics, but you get the idea.

Personally, the LionSteel SR-1 and SR-2 folders with blade thicknesses of 0.18" and 0.16" respectively in Damascus steel and those beefy single block of titanium frames epitomize a classy and refined tank.

LionSteel SR-1 & SR-2 RainDrop Damascus with Bronze Titanium frame:

Viper Rhino. Another Maniago Italy offering.
N690Co lock back scaled with Lignum Vitae. About 10" overall.

Unique, classy beast of a knife right there!

I like it too but wish I had more of an opportunity to carry it. Due to its size I reserve this one for woods carry. Personally don't need to be scaring folks whipping this one out.
It's really comfortable in my hand with zero hot spots. No detail has been overlooked, all edges have been rounded and mating surfaces are almost perfect.
Great knife for the price I paid. I can't seem to find this exact model around any more though with the wood scales. Shame, it's the classier of the finishes offered in this model Viper.

How about the Boker Epicenter? Big old Ti handles with a nice slab of VG10. I second the Spyderco Valloton. CC Striders fit the bill for me.
