I have a saber, by Henry V Allen & Co, that belonged to my Grandfather and the sheath is rusted in spots. I would like to have it restored so I could have it on display. Does anyone know where I could get this done and have it restored to its original condition?

Google sword restoration.

There are a handful of folk that deal with repair and restoration. Depending on the type of sword and severity of the rusting, there may be some products most anyone can use to lessen the rust and making huge improvements with little effort.

Can you better describe the sword or supply a photo here? The V Allen & Co swords span several decades and at least three saber types. Some of those are plain steel scabbards and others plated. Does it have branches to the guard? Is it silvery or brass? Does the sword guard look kind of like a P and have no extra branches? Does a magnet stick to the guard? Are there "rays" and an eagle on the guard?

Google search possibilities ..... 1872 cavalry saber ...... 1872 artillery saber ...... Ancient and Honorable Artillery saber ..... 1902 infantry officer saber

Cheers

I've added some pictures to the original post in hopes someone could also tell me which one it is. I was wondering if anyone on here has used someone and willing to recommend from a past project.

It is an m1902 sword for all officers. The hilt appears to be white brass/nickel silver The plating on the scabbard would be very difficult to replicate and I would suggest just cleaning it up some yourself. The scabbard "plating" was really just a wash of sorts and not used these days

or other metal polishes would do wonders for it. Nevr-Dull is cotton wadding, kerosene (basically), clay and ground quartz. It is a little more aggressive than some but would deal with the surface rust you see. It doesn't look like there is any deep rust, so it would clean up fairly readily. Or, just wipe with a soft cloth dampened with light oil. Do not put any waxes on rusty surfaces.

Just to add a little more, The company continued until 1920. Although listed vas a maker/cutler, this sword you have was German made (likely Eickhorn) and the grip looks like bakelite or other early plastic.

Thank you for the information. I'll loved this sword ever since I was a kid and seen it in our garage, and my Dad always talked about getting it restored. When he passed I got it, and even after serving 8 years in the Army never seen a saber like it. I'll try to get some of that polish and post a picture of how it looks afterwards. Thanks again.
