I have a couple of blades Im thinking about having refinished (BK5 and a BK7). Looking at Duracoat, Gun-kote, CeraKote, moly resin, ect. Anyone have opinions or suggestions for refinishing? Think I will go away from the standard black finish. I would be interested to hear opinions on products as well as companies to do the application. Thanks for any info.

Been wondering the same thing so I'm very interested in how it works out.

There was a BK2 that someone modded heavily not too long ago, that used CeraKote (If I remember right). I hear that its pretty durable, but I have no experience with it. I'll have to see if I can find that thread.

I'm interested to hear about this as well. I think a Coyote Brown Becker would be sweet. Kinda like the desert tan ones they offered before. Also, I'd be interested in hearing about how much this stuff costs, and if you can do it yourself.

EDIT:
Found it, here it is

A pic from that thread.

I've contacted a few companies about cerakoting. I will likely have a few blades coated with it and I will update this thread when available.

Hasnt been cheap. $40 per blade but Ive got a couple more companies that Im waiting to hear from that say they will beat that.

Dusty,

Contact jforbush here on the forums, hes a stand up guy and I'm positive can hook you up, reasonably .... I'm sure quantity pricing will be in your favor no matter who you use..

keep us posted...

pretty good, not as bonded as the original by a long shot, but it's the color I wanted. I didnt have primer tho.

Brownells has several epoxy coatings for firearms. Look on their website they have videos about the pros and cons of each as well as how to apply videos. Some need to be baked on others do not.

as I stated in another thread, as far as I know only Diamond blade knifes have a NP3 (Non +) treatment. I talked to the people at Robar the other day and they can NP3+ a knife, it's suppose to work out really well and they only charge 50 bucks.

I should be getting a BK5 this week. I plan on adding some jimping and maybe widening the spine a bit by grinding it down slightly and sending it off to Robar to get it stripped and have a NP3+ treatment. Then I'll go with some liners, a homemade lanyard, mabey a mod job on the scales, or get some Micarta ones and dye them OD green. If I fallow threw with this I will have pictures.

Ok......I have worked with Gun Kote, Duracoat, Aluma Hyde and Cerakote. Out of all 4 I can tell you that Cerakote is hands down a better finish. So much that it is all I will work with now. Cerakote goes on thin, is more wear resistant, more chemical resistant and is more the most economical in comparison to DLC or Robar.

I work with firearms, knives, flashlights and anything else that you can imagine people would want a different color. Knives no exception. I have done countless blades and I have yet to have one complaint. The thing to remember with any coating....it is a coating and will wear with use....no exceptions on any of them.

I can also say that depending on the size of the knife and how many of I am doing I can beat both the 40.00 and 50.00 quotes. Bulk work is of course more cost effective.
