Ok, I kind of scratched the sides of my Gerber LST and I would like to remove it, even if it includes removal of the stock finish. Will sanding it down with a fine sandpaper work?

What type of finish does the blade have? What did you scratch it with? If it is a polished finish you may want to try Flix or some other metal polish. If you are going to use sandpaper I would go with like 600 or higher grit, make sure you use a hard backing on the sandpaper, and don't cut you finger off!

How about sending it to Gerber? Most companies will refurbish a knife for small fee, I'm sure it would be worth the time for a phone call. I sent in a mid 70's Buck 112 and they did stuff to it I could never have begun. Gerber's got a good C/S reputation. Just an idea.

The knife only cost me $20(my practice knife) and I don't want to bother with it sending it in. I scratched it with the side of the honing stone. Bruz, it's not sharp enough to cut my finger off:D

Toss it in your toolbox as a "user" and buy yourself a Spyderco Native III or a Delica as your new EDC.:D.

It's not my EDC and I never carry it (I'm 15 and in NYC) I'm just using it to do household chores and to practice my sharpening skills on.

In that case you can practice.
Start with the 600 grit paper. work your way up till you get the finish that you're after.
Auto stores carry the higher grit papers to 1500 grit or so.
After youy get the finish to your liking retry sharpening
Get the "RazorEdge Book of Sharpening"
I'm 50 and I read it a year ago.
It allowed me to understand sharpening and blade angles.
If they don't have it @ Barnes get it online from Razoredge.
You will be sharpening like a champ in no time.
Good Knifing
