Refinishing a scarred Busse?

I have a well loved straight handled BM with plenty of scuffs in the finish. I was thinking of trying to take off the finish and satin it up myself. Has anyone tried this? Maybe I should send it in to Busse to get it done? A bead blast might be kinda cool. I don't know what to do!

I dunno if that would be a frowned upon change. I do know that Busse will refinish your blade for about $60 (new black crinkle coat). I don't know that they would be willing to bead blast it for you though. You could always call them, they would at least humor you if nothing else :) Good luck.

I could be wrong not having done it yet, but I was under the impressions that for a refinishing charge Busse would give any knife any finish requested? Maybe not their new beas blasted finish that just came out.....

just go down to the hardware store and get some spackle - you're choice grey or black - and refinish your blade in your backyard next to the old le mans that ain't running no more.

Do it over the area where the grass doesn't grown anymore because that is where you and your friends drink beer and get the mullet-cuts freshened up on the weekends...

Thanks guys. I will contact them and see. That would be great to have it profesionally refinished, and the bead blast looks excellent. I've just never been much of a fan of the black coatings on knives.

I live in L.A. the land of breast implants not mullets, drive-by shootings from Cadilac Escalades, not broken down Pontiacs. Come on now.

We seem to have a troll from the Strider forums!

Welcome aboard hondo.:)

Edited to add that I'd be irritable too if I paid $325 for a knife and it had a cord-wrapped handle with the ergonomics of a Starrett 12" rule.

Hondo,
Welcome to the Busse forum.

I've heard your spackle finish comment before, I wasn't impressed by your wit then nor am I now. It is obvious you have no experience with this type of coating, if you'd like some information it can be found here. http://www.bladeforums.com/forums/showthread.php?s=&threadid=195828&highlight=blade+coating

However, it appears that you are only here to try and get a reaction out of us.

I hope you decide to stick around and join in our discussions, if you do please be aware that trolling is frowned upon on this forum. You are welcome to give your opinion as everyone else is, however, I have a feeling you're after a little more. Please feel free to correct me if I misinterpreted your post.

tknife, i have sent 4 of mine back in the last month for refinish. they did satin and beadblast and recoat. i have a ztno getting the new blast right now. i do not believe they will do the older discontinued finishes or replace your screwed handles with screws. when reinstalling handles you get the upgrade hollow rivits. at least thats my personal expierence with busse.

Hey Skunk what did they charge you for some of
those finishes? Does anyone know if they'll
refinish the discontinued basic series?

Since the handles are a different story on those I don't know if makes a difference in the refinishing process. Hmmmm, good question. Even though they can't remove the handles for a full refinish as they can with the CG line I guess the blade and partially exposed forward tang could be refinished?

I'd be irritable too if I paid $325 for a knife and it had a cord-wrapped handle with the ergonomics of a Starrett 12" rule.

Getting hoisted on your own cord-wrapped blade: PRICELESS.

All in good, clean, wholesome fun, of course. ;)

Is the new blast a ceramic peen or something similar?
If so, I believe that actually protects the blade rather than making it more vulnerable to the elements like bead blast, because it closes off the pores, instead increasing surface area like BB. Not 100% clear on that, though.
I really like the way it looks, and wouldn't mind having something like that on my Basic 9. Course I like the pics I've seen w/a satin finish, too. Be nice to be able to just sand your blade when it gets to looking a little worse for wear:)

the new bead blast on my sh variant is the best! i like it better than all the finishes, so much that i sent in two knifes to get redressed. lots smoother than the older blast.

When I first saw the title of this thread, I thought, "Now who in the hell could scar a Busse?"

Then I read that you were talking about scuffs, it made more sense.

Never mind, I'll mind my own business again... :D

idahoskunk,

Could you post some pics of the beadblast? I have a newly aquired, scuffed BM that I was thinking about getting refinished...maybe.

Thanks
