refitting the handle on the perrin streetbowie

I recently purchased, then sold, then repurchased this exceptional knife... I had sold it because I felt that the handle did not fit my hand, since the finger choil gave me the feeling of insecurity rather than confidence, in my grip. I repurchased the knife because I love the blade itself, and I have intentions of refitting the handle, by either having somebody switch it completely for another design in G10, or by somehow filling the choil, increasing the girth of the handle, and adding a small pommel guard to avoid slippage onto the blade. So, does anybody know of someone that has done such a chore? Referrals would be much appreciated! Or is there a not too difficult way of doing it myself? I heard that the current plastic handle is just about impossible to get off. Help!

2 people I would ask. They may know how. "Sc_rebel1957" and "Nobody". "Nobody" talked about doing a mod to the handle, but I don't know if he ever did. "Sc_rebel1957" does some Spydie mods, but I don't know if he will rehandle a Perrin.

You might be happier with a Temperance FB from the sound of things.

If you consider replacing the handle, keep in mind that it has a 1/2 tang.

Carlos (or Sal),

let us be precise about tangs:

1. I read (I think the author was Sal) that Temperance has a 1/2 tang.

2. Somewhere I read that Spyderco's Perrin FB has something like a 3/4 tang.

IMO somebody should said it clearly, after all it is probably not a 'classified' fact.

My question in addition: since the original Perrin's custom knife has a full tang - why is the tang in production version shorter? Is that because it is cheaper, or because it is lighter, or is a full tang an overbuilt?

Regards,

Franco
