Tried my hand at a regrind on a knife that belongs to a buddy.
He found it at a garage sale and liked the way it looked/felt, but the edge was super thick and it didn’t cut well. He asked if I could take a look and I ended up giving the blade a shallow, full-height convex and a convex secondary. The original grind was very obtuse - machete style - as you can see from the scratch marks on the first photo. I didn’t grind away all of the pitting to save as much material as possible. I also polished up the brass and gave the handle a few coats of tung oil.
I think it came out looking nice and it’s super sharp now. Enjoy the pics!

Great work.:thumbsup::thumbsup: Can i ask, did you polish the tung oil finish, or did it just come out like that after a few coats?
Thx!
Re polishing: Just a little with a paper towel between coats but no buffing wheels, etc. (Used a 1:1 of pure tung and citrus spirits FYI).
It’ll build up a laquer like layer after multiple coats - I love the stuff.
I did run the buffing wheel over the blade to smooth out micro-scratches and hopefully reduce rust.

I am no expert of things of that nature; I am just judging with my eyes. I must say if that were mine and I handed it to you and it came back looking like THAT - I would give you a firm handshake and then bow 7 times to the Eastern skies. Fantastic job! IMO. :O)

Thanks!
I really enjoy bringing out-of-service blades back into action.
I also chamfered/polished the spine/quillion a bit for better feel and re-filed (to de-rust and true-up) and chamfered the tenderizer portion. It’s a pretty sweet little cleaver now. :)

Good job on that. That’s a lot of acreage to get an even finish. I have been regrinding my Delica to keep it working. It’s due for its second thinning soon but it’s still working fine. I like to keep the thickness behind the edge under 0.02”. I need to even it out a bit too.
