Refurbished iPhones?

Howdy folks-

My wife is wanting to switch to AT&T from her current provider, as she barely gets reception in our home. She also wants an iphone. I was wondering if many folks here have ordered the 'refurbished' iphones? Are they generally reliable and not overtly 'used'?

Thanks for any info-

In my experience back in the day when I worked for a place that did custom home theaters and such, a refurbished item was one that had been gone through and inspected at the factory. I've purchased a few refurb electronic items since I found that out and have never had an issue.

I have bought refurbished equipment in the past and have never had any problems.
I have not bought a refurbished iphone.

My wife has had a 1st gen and a 2nd gen iPhone, each was refurbished. She has had zero problems with them being refurbished.

My friend once said something I can't get out of my head though (and my wife agrees). He said the iPhone is the coolest gadget ever and also the worst phone he's ever had.

Refurbished iphones are fine. They are flash based so really the only thing that could go wrong is low battery life or broken buttons.

Thanks for the input guys! Got her setup for one this afternoon. She has used mine in the past and liked it very much, and she gets no reception in our house from her current provider.
