While at the Eugene show I purchased a Sable IV that my wife really liked. The knife was NIB but marked "Refurbished" on the factory card. The knife, upon close inspection with a magnifying glass appears to be absolutely new. The dealer, whom I have done business with in the past, stated that he was pretty certain the the knife was recut or remachined from a blank that started out as another model, and that this was not an uncommon practice to prevent the total loss of the blade when a mistake happens during production, and that such blades were marked refurbished. I got a great deal on the knife and the dealer was totally forthcoming. Can anyone verify whether the above practice is correct? Does it in anyway devalue the knife since my wife has now decided she prefers the Shadow and wants to sell the Sable. We just want to get what we paid for it if possible but if refurbished usually means a specific markdown from new, we would sell it at the normally recommended price for refurbished blades. Thanks to all.
