Refurbishing a Micarta Sebenza???

I've always refurbed the scales on my Sebenzas myself in my blast cabinet. I've routinely redone the scales on the clip side of wood inlays by masking off the wood and polished portions of the scale. I just ordered a small Classic Micarta. Since both scales are completely bead blasted, it would be hard to mask off the Micarta. I seem to recall someone saying that the scales and the Micarta can be blasted. Anyone here done that? What is the effect on the Micarta? Or should I just plan on polishing the areas that are polished on the Classic wood inlays when they need refinishing.

Hi Rich,

The micarta can be blasted, this is how CRK refurbs them as well when you send it in. I've never done, never seen one done by anyone else, but when I asked the folks at CRK the same question, they told me thats what they do.

Thanks for the response,

FWIW, I got the opposite answer from Heather when I tried to order one (they won't produce another batch for 2 or 3 months). She also said they are "sandblasted". I know all other Sebenzas are blasted with 80 grit aluminum oxide so who knows. Finally found one at a vendor and it's on the way. I think I'll try to blast it, if and when it's needed. Should be a tough little bugger though.

Weird??? Sean at CRK told me a while back they are done just like the plain Sebs when they're refurbed. Well, I know the micarta does hold up really well, so should be a long while before it needs it:thumbup:
