Earlier today, I was delighted to discover a few old folding knives my grandfather kept. One a tree brand Stockman...he had it with him all the time, and it is really beaten up. The clip blade is loose and wobbly, and the sheeps foot and spey blades seem fine, if not heavily soiled. My question is, can the knife be taken apart and the clip blade repaired and tightened up then reassembled? The steel is good, still sharp after 15 years following his death.

Can it be done? I don't ever intend on selling it, so collectors value shouldn't be an issue. It would still be all original knife, just repaired....

What can be done, if anything?

You can do it

You may be able to fix the wobbly blade by gently tapping with a light hammer , I would put a square of duct tape on the hammer head so as not to mar the bolster.

I have refubed a lot of old slipjoints , sometimes it works and sometimes it doesnt. If it does not work then you get into where you have to take her apart and that is a whole nother ball of wax :)
