I have found a wetterlings hatchet head I bidded on and the total would be 52 for the head and 30 for the handle totaling around $80. I was thinking about just buying a new Wildlife Hatchet. I am not sure what to do.

I am little confused .... 2 weeks ago you were looking for cheap collins axe head (I had feeling you wanted 2-3lbs axe head) Today you are talking about unspecified wetterlings and wildlife hatchet(Length with handle: 34 cm (13.5” Weight: 0,6 kg (1.3 lb). What is the purpose of this hatchet? Camping? Carpentry?

If small hatchet is what you are really looking for than consider also much cheaper $30 Husqvarna 576926301 13" Wooden Hatchet (less refined version of Hults Bruk Tarnaby)

I am still looking for a 2-3 pound axe. I was also in need of a camping hatchet. I do not like the hosqvarna hatchet. I was wondering if it was better just to get a new one or refurbish a older one.

With the shop closing down, pretty quick here $80 for a Wetterling will be a fantastic deal, regardless of condition (unless it's REALLY trashed)

Sell. Find you a good hand forged head from your area and restore it. Take the money you have saved and buy beer.
That is exactly what I would do. I own or have owned the Sweedish hatchets you are talking about.

Not what you wanted to hear so I am sure you won’t do it but shooting you straight.

Find a vintage American hatchet head for a good price and restore it.
You should be ale to find something for under $20 even if it's a Carpenters type half hatchet, and a you should be able to find a hatchet handle in a hardware store somewhere for under $10.

I did a refurb.. Found a $20 head needed some work and a $12 handle from the hardware store, and a couple of afternoons in the sun fitting it. now I have a 1lb hatchet head on a 16" scout handle... Light and lots of power because of the swing.
