Tearing up our living room and 13' hallway to have new carpet laid down.
The old carpet is over 20 years old and it shows, especially in the middle
of the living room, which is quite a large room by most standards,
18' by 22' so that's a lot of room! Carpet's only come as wide as 15' so there will be a seam but it will be closer to the outer wall this time, as the last carpet was 12' and has since broke open, have a throw rug to cover it but the wife, she's not too happy and you know, if she ain't happy, nobody's happy ;)

We would have had the carpet place we bought the old one from to come in and repair it, but they went out of business. This new place said don't worry, if anything goes wrong with the seams, it's warranteed for life, so I related our previous purchase and he said, well we'll try to stay around longer :)

SO, we're painting the walls before they come to install the carpet, which means we have to move everything off and away from the walls and patch where needed.

Also, found out when they came to measure, I asked if we have to remove the molding, problem was, when the last carpet was laid down, there was no molding so they ran the carpet right up to the wall, and later on, I installed 3" wide molding along the walls, SO, the molding is directly over the tack strip! which is on installed in the concrete floor, so off come the molding, ugh!

THEN we will have to MOVE everything out of the living room when they come in to lay the carpet down, computer desk, work desk, two rocking recliners, couch, coffee table, two end tables, book case, cd case, dvd case, entertainment system with floor standing speakers and sub woofer, I'm really not looking forward to this but as mentioned above, keep the wife happy! :)

Just cleaned out the computer desk and moved it 3' away from the walls so we can paint around it, and put the computer back together less a few things, still works, lol good thing.

Well, just taking a break from the junk, it will be nice when it's all said and done, but it's that said and done part that gets you...

Sounds like a big job, Gary. In addition to a new carpet, new molding and pleased wife, another positive feature of your weekend project is that it should keep you occupied and out of trouble. Good luck!

Thanks WrayH, and Mongo, yep read a bit of his problems, glad I'm not doing
that right away ;)

Took out a loan from my 401k to pay towards the carpet and all the associated stuff it takes, it will be fun cramming all the stuff into the smaller bedrooms when it's time for them to lay down the carpet, and will have to pull up the old carpet the day or two before, that in itself should be tons
of fun, no pun intended ;)

"Dear, with all of our worldly possessions stacked in the bedroom like cordwood, while the carpeting gets done just the way YOU want it, we can't possibly sleep in there tonight, so I booked us into this great hotel. Of course, since I was booking on short notice, the cheap rooms were all sold out and I had to get the fancy one with the fireplace and a hot tub out on the balcony. Oh, and since you can't get into the bedroom anymore since the guys and I put the entertainment center across the front of the door, I packed for you. I know, so thoughtful. Ah, yes, everything YOU'LL need is in that coin purse. Let's go..."
:D

hehe, good tips there Gollnick, I may try one or two and see where it leads ;)

As a former flooring guy I can tell you that 99% of shops only waranty the labor (seams, upholstry, stretching, ect.) for 1 year. The carpet manufacturer warranty is usually much longer. Get a labor warrenty in writing.

Thanks John, that's a good idea!
Painting is all but done, still have to figure out how to cram in all the
stuff into the smaller rooms and then tear up the old carpet!
