I've got a Queen stockman with cocobolo scales. The scales, which were a nice bright color, are now dark. Any way to bring back that shine?

The only thing I have done is to sand them down, apply a good linseed finish and look at it again. It should come back.

We're talkin cocobolo here , good luck applying anything to it and having it dry.
Very oily wood , many makers do not put a finish on it at all , the wood is 'self oiling' to be exact.
I would buy a hunk of beeswax , the real stuff to give it a nice shine and to coax those natural oils out.
But you wanted it lighter right ? Only way to do that is to keep sanding it and after time all your wood will be gone , lol
Cocobolo will always darken because of the oils. You could buy some denatured alcohol or even 99% isopropyl and wipe the sacles down with that , that will not dry the wood out enough to make a difference , then finish with beezwax.

Sorry if this sounds dumb , just got off a 22 hour shift and im loopy.
