It seams that my thread was locked for no legitimate violation of forum rules. I trust that the Mods Will only continue to operate within their responsibilities as moderators which I don't believe includes passing down judgment based on personal opinion.

Many users were inquiring about purchasing the Buck Striders within this category which is not the place for
buying and selling. Doing so is in clear violation of the rules so as the author of this thread is my responsibility to ask users to please refrain from inquire about buying the knifes within this thread.

I will repost them in the exchange once they are confirmed as legitimate bucks which is exactly my reasons for posting this thread. Till then I have been asked not to attempt to sell on the Buck Striders on the forum until this question has been satisfied.

Yesterday I was fortunate enough to come across a lot of 11 legitimate Buck Strider 889's. Seeing a mutually beneficial opportunity for my self and the collectors on this forum, I purchased the 11 knifes so that I may sell them at fair market value to those members who may be looking for this out of production folder.

After happily purchasing my platinum membership I posted the knives for sale as an individual. Although I did find a price for the lot, I wanted to give those interested members an opportunity to help me define a fair market value. Not even one Page into the thread I was told by a moderator that I would have to define a price which I promptly did. A few minutes later unfortunately without a warning the mod decided to lock my for sale thread and instantly move it to Pirates Cove. As you may imagine I was offended for being tagged a fraud of some sort based on the mods speculation that the knives may have been Chinese counterfeits. Although I feel the correspondence that followed should have happened prior to my thread being moved to Pirates Cove the mod asked me to provide proof of the knives legitimacy which I did in the form of photographs of the receipts from earlier that day. Additionally I offered to take as many pictures as necessary of the knife, the box, with factory UPC label, the instruction manual etc as well as giving the mod the URL for the store (authorized reseller for Emerson Spyderco, protec) from whom I purchased the knives. Unfortunately the response I received from the mod was something to the effect of please stop your correspondence within to this p.m.

So now what I am looking for is for one of our respected members to help me confirm the authenticity of the knives. I would like to start by sending as many photographs as necessary as well as purchase documentation in order to expedite this so I may put my thread back up ASAP. If necessary I'm willing to go as far as to fedex this expert at my own expense one of the knives of his choosing so that he may inspected in person.

In order to show my gratitude to whomever ends up helping me I will send you one of the knives at no charge as a thank you.

Please see the below photos.

I am taking more of the details right now so please standby for those.

Close-up pictures of the logos would help. Are they etched or stamped? It will help people form opinions without actually handling them.

Mr. Taxi, perhaps you should go read the last post in the closed thread Very Carefully...Blues was very clear about the rules in that post...just discussing that the knives will be sold is a no no...

I'm sure no expert, but the first things I look at are the blade pivot screw and the markings. If they are etched and not stamped, I'm sure they are fake. The pivot screw on those appears to be correct and are the same as the one in the knife below. It came direct from Buck so I know it's real. Most if not all the fakes I've seen have a different head on the pivot screw. I wouldn't trust the boxes as a proof, they would be easier to fake than the knife itself.

The only difference in outward appearance i've seen so far between these and those i've found so far being sold on chinese sites is the embossed logo on the handle, everything else looks the same. As to whether they are made of the correct steel is another matter. As everyone knows, the counterfieters constantly improve the outward appearance of the fakes until it's nearly impossible to tell them from the real deal.

Perhaps you would like to show if there is a date code on the blade?

It seems suspect to me that a new member would show up, purchase a membership to sell and immediately begin an auction in violation of the clearly posted rules. It also seems odd to me that these were just purchased wholesale by you yesterday from an unverifiable seller. It further seems odd to me that you purchased a quantity of these items for far less than they are currently fetching anywhere on the internet and are, by your posted price, trying to make a hefty profit. That auction site doesnt have as many of these as you are showing. As far as i can gather they are a discontinued item. Then theres the matter of the packaging, not so much the boxes themselves, as everyone knows many manufacturers have their stuff printed in china and their overruns are routinely sold to counterfieters there. What makes me suspect the packaging is the lableing, which is spot on to what known fakes have come in. For all i know you purchased counterfiets yourself from the site you got them from, as i find it hard to believe that they wholesaled them to you at little or no profit. Currently the known fakes are selling for around $20. Currently this Real item is being sold most places for $100 to $200+ .

Then theres the matter of your impatience. I have (and told you) that i've sent Mr. Houser an Email. I have yet to hear back from him. I would rather upset you a bit and investigate this matter, rather than allow our membership to be sold a fake bill of goods and the fine buck company be ripped off by any unscupulous buying and selling.

I think the guy probably bought them too quickly and is now panicked.....and he's thinking they are fakes and this is a quick way to have them evaluated.

Well, I do know those yellow boxes are the most popular boxes among the fakers.

I also know they've had time to correct their previous errors and could now be using the proper head on the pivot screws--that's an easy fix.

I wish the guy well, but he may have made a mistake in buying them.

New pictures have been posted in the OP.
I, and the seller i assume, will welcome any knowledgeable or expert opinion on these.

It seems suspect to me that a new member would show up, purchase a membership to sell and immediately begin an auctionI did not start an auction or anything like an auction. please go back to the thread and review it more carefullyin violation of the clearly posted rules. It also seems odd to me that these were just purchased wholesale I never said I punched them wholesale I did however explain to you over pm the details of how I came to find these in quantity. Please go back and re read our pm exchange.by you yesterday from an unverifiable seller[B/]. I sent you the site address for the brick and mortor store in los Angeles last night as well you recieved the store name and address in both images of the sales reciept that you asked me to send you. If you were unable to verify perhaps it was due to user errorIt further seems odd to me that you purchased a quantity of these items for far less than they are currently fetching anywhere on the internet the store from where I purchased since the professional film industry in Los Angeles and has been for over 30 years with a core business of supplying expendable materials and tools to onset professionals I would say it is reasonable that a store like this does waste its time watching the fluctuating market price of a discontinued stock. and are, by your posted price, trying to make a hefty profit. That auction site doesnt have as many of these as you are showing. As far as i can gather they are a discontinued item. What makes me suspect the packaging is the lableing, which is spot on to what known fakes have come in. For all i know which in this case all you know is they are legit being that you really dont know anything. Correct?you purchased counterfiets yourself from the site you got them from, again you should prob go back and re read. You will find that I explain multiple times that i punched them at a brick and mortor in los angeles yesterday.as i find it hard to believe that they wholesaled them to you at little or no profit. Currently the known fakes are selling for around $20. Currently this Real item is being sold most places for $100 to $200+ .

Then theres the matter of your impatience. I have (and told you) that i've sent Mr. Houser an Email.that statment is bordering on being an outright lie an as far as i can tell your last corospondance to me was to tell me to stop emailing you im the Pm thread that we had going and that was the last I heard from you.I have yet to hear back from him. I would rather upset you a bit and investigate this matter, rather than allow our membership to be sold a fake bill of goods and the fine buck company be ripped off by any unscupulous buying and selling.

Would you like to copy and paste ALL of our private message correspondence so all can read or would you like me to?

This afternoon I took all 11 of them into a brick-and-mortar by the name of [EDITED] The shop owner happily agreed to sell three of them on consignment for me. [EDITED] has been in the business of primarily selling knifes since the 80s. Perhaps the mod would like to call the shop owner tomorrow to get his opinion on the legitimacy of the knives. In the meantime, any of you looking to purchase one of the knifes may want to give [EDITED] a call. As of this afternoon he has three. one in each color.

Listen, I've been upfront with you and quite patient considering.....
I never told you to stop PMing me, i only told you to stop replying with the warning i sent you, the quotes were becoming too large and annoying.
I've handled this as best i can considering the fakes out there, in the best interest of the membership.
Perhaps you need to reread our correspondence, as it did tell you i had sent an email to Buck Knives ( I actually sent it to Joe Houser).
You can either wait for the outcome, or you are more than welcome to sell these elsewhere.

I'm more than happy to wait for the outcome and if you read what I wrote in my first post above, my primary goal is to assist you in your "investigation" which from what you are saying here is not being conducted with an unbiased point of view. I don't see the relevance of your constant speculation based merely on your opinion. Additionally from what I can tell your investigation is not being conducted carefully enough based on how often you seem to inaccurately remember important details such as how I came upon and acquired these knives. I did not (I communicated this to you in multiple forms) purchase the knives online. I purchased the knives at a brick-and-mortar in Los Angeles. Additionally I did not purchase the knives "wholesale" I was simply given a discount for buying their entire stock. I need not go further. I think you get the point.

I am so willing to be patient that I would like to formally request that you be taken off of this and replaced by a moderator we will investigate this without bias and in cooperation with me.

I can read, i know what "walk-in" means and i saw the price you paid per item, i've never stated that you purchased these online. You need to quit misrepresenting what i've told you.
I've spent so much time dealing with you here that its been a chore to investigate this.
We have many knowlegeable people here and i've sent Joe Houser an Email. You can wait for their opinion or you can sell elsewhere.

Real or fake I wouldn't take one of these from you for free.
This is not the right way to join a forum, more so a community of knife enthusiasts.
Theres a better place to go if your looking to make a quick buck. Rhymes with flea bay.

Yeah, platinum isn't a limited dealer membership.

Signing up to sell is dealing isn't it?

I'm not trying to get a free knife but I did some research for you because they look real to me. The bar code on your black scaled knife box is the same numbers as a legit one for sale on flea-bay. I can also see that all your codes which show are different. I doubt a knock off would go to that much trouble-using real numbers and the right numbers for each color of the style.
Another point is the knives pictured look like they were flipped open a few times due to the bit of paint missing on thumb stud. That usually happens to real knives when one of each is displayed for fondling. Good luck with your investment.
Thanks, Dan

What started the investigation? Are most knives listed FS here authenticated first?

While it's not totally indicative, known fakes have been found in legit boxes with proper coding. Overruns of boxes have been known to be sold to counterfieters, as i stated previously.

Normally i don't investigate these things, but as outlined in my previous post, my hackles were greatly raised by the OP's actions and auction:
http://www.bladeforums.com/forums/s...eeking-expert-witness?p=11062189#post11062189

After quite intensive research on this model, it appears to me that models of this vintage are marked in the manner shown here and later models do not have the idaho state stamp. The stamp appears to have been changed to a date code? Model Number? (SB.4)
Barring someone at Buck or an expert telling me different, i have to conclude that these are likely legitimate.
As always do your due diligence on your purchases, avoid impulse buying and purchase wisely.

Normally yes, but if the OP doesnt make a habit of doing this.......
If he wishes to routinely resell items here, he will need to purchase the dealer membership.

The chicken taxi,

You may repost your sale in the Buck For Sale Forum, not in the individual forum. You must include a set item price in the original post. Your listing must conform to all the points listed in the Exchange Forum Rules. I apologise for any misunderstandings. Good luck with your sale.
