I was wondering.....

I notice that New York has historical manufacturing and that Oregon and Idaho are both strong centers of knife making. What are regional differences in knife design? Are there any? Are there recognizable regional design features. Is there a mountain states style or a Southern School of knife design. Does where a knife maker lives influence the knives they make?
