Hi guys
Hi everyone. I have some questions about H1, thanks for all replies beforehand!
I am about to receive my new next fixed blade, the Spyderco Jumpmaster (see pics), all scratched up and used. I plan to mod it.

I don't mind its looks, as I pretend to use it a lot and I want to regrind/reprofile the tip so as to make it pointy. Our fellow member Surfingringo did it on his, creating kind of a sheepsfoot blade with fine point.

I wanted to know:
1- having no power tools other than a Dremel, what would you use to reprofile?
2- can the H1 steel blade be overheated, and its "temper" ruined, given the fact that it isn't heat treated?
3- would the steel suffer extreme hardening due to the heat of the grinding wheel? what kind of effect should I expect from work hardening the blade in such a way?
4- would you do a "sheepsfoot" shape, or would you rather make a Wharncliff out of it (like the Kahr arms Delica has)?

Thanks much, and any tip or advice will be highly appreciated!

I can't help on the grinding.

But I'm here to see the results when your done.

I wouldn't be too concerned about grinding the spine of the knife seeing as it doesn't need to hold an edge but don't overheat it too much due to hardening and making your job of reprofiling more difficult.
Use plenty of water if you use a power tool.
I've had good results reprofiling tips simply using stones and patience. It doesn't all need to be done in one sitting.
And a good rule of thumb: keep the Dremel away from your knives.
Your Jumpmaster looks well used so no real need to worry much about messing up the aesthetics but still you want it to look nice for what I expect...many, many, many...etc...pictures to come. ;)

Used an old Lansky knife sharpening set. The coarse stone did almost all of the work. Was not shy with the oil, and cleaned often. I profiled a little over 2 cm, taking the material off the same one side as the factory did. Although there is slop in the Lansky setup, it looks OK as I tried to be consistent with the way I held onto the stone and blade/bracket. I had contacted Spyderco before doing it, asking for advice. They said to grind. Pleased with the results.

Thanks all for the responses!

I still have to receive the knife on the mail, the pics are from the seller, but I'll be sure to post mine as soon as it arrives!

Probably worth noting that SurfinGringo didn't do the grind himself: it was a mod done by Spyderco for testing purposes.

Yeah, Lance has reground a few folders but that jump master was sent to him that way from Spyderco for testing.

H1 is easy as pie to sharpen which means it is easy to grind.
