Reground poll on a plumb rafting pattern.

I think it looks sharp! I'm curious about the short handle. What's the weight of that axe?

I've been thinking about re-grinding the waffle pattern on one of my Plumb rafting axes.

Hey pegs.. this head was pretty beat, so I decided to hang it in a short little haft as a sawyers axe. It's a 4 pound head on a 20" handle. Should be a helluva wedge pounder.

I think it is awesome, but I would have put it on a miners or fellers (straight) handle. Just me, though! Nothing wrong with the work you did.

I probably would have too, if I had one on hand... It was a spur of the monent project! I went out to my shop in slippers to pick up one thing... And then this happened! Oops!

If you are looking for opinions as to how it turned out, I don't see how you could have done better. It looks as good as can be.

That is great work Olybears. Super clean looking, crisp edges. Very nice!

It looks good! I personally think if one has the talent, all tools intended for use should be brought back as close to like new condition as can be achieved.

The end result is lovely. You did say the head was 'pretty beat up'. You wouldn't happen to have "before" pictures to go with the "after" ones would you? The reason I ask is whether it was chipping or mushrooming that prompted this.

The poll was actually in pretty good shape. It was the bit that was chipped up pretty bad. The shape was pretty jacked up. I usually don't shine up old stuff, but I decided this old fella was a good candidate. I just decided to work on the poll to see how "nice" i could make it.

Nice job. I would have use a straight haft for pounding wedges. That thing is going to be a great tool.
