I would go Mammoth, bark in particular but ivory wins also. BG-42 doesn't really matter to me. I find S30V and S35VN to be just fine. Love the look of both mammoth ivory and bark
Should never have sold mine, but hardly my 1st mistake
Those are very different knives to me. If I was carrying a mammoth Sebenza I would think twice before using it on anything that might even potentially make a mark. I would use a regular bg42 just like any other knive without a second thought.
I have both and will say that I am afraid of dropping the mammoth and having it break, while I have no hesitation using BG42. Depends if you want a safe queen/ light user or a EDC user to do it all. The mammoth 21 will do anything the BG42 will do bladewise, it’s just the added worry of damage during a drop. And that can happen, no matter how careful you may be.
The mammoth wouldn't be used that much and I'd be picky what to use it on. But, damn, to have a mammoth would bring a smile to my face and I'd really enjoy having one. Like PPeter Hartwig
, I should have never sold the one I had. I wouldn't make that same mistake again.
As CRK stopped using mammoth ivory, from a collectors standpoint I would go for mammoth. As said by the other members above, if you are looking for a user, you may prefer a BG42 Regular. Although not everybody is happy with BG42 for edc purpose, because its easier to maintain the edge with S30V and also some have experienced corrosion spots at BG42 blades.
