I sincerely desire a large Sebenza. I don't see the differences between the two except for the thumb groove cut out to unlock the framelock on the Classic. Which do you prefer? Can the frame lock come unlocked on the Classics like the liners on the Emerson CQC 7 series. I can twist on the finger groove that is cut out on the handles and unlock the liner on the CQC series. I know that Chris Reeves knives aren't meant for self defense but you never know. The Classics are beauties though? Can this happen on the Classic? I personally can't see it happening on the regular model but I could be wrong. Need some help on this one guys!!

IF WAR IS HELL, TAKE A BETTER PITCHFORK THAN THE DEVIL

There are some subtle differences between the two:
Regular:
Handle is slightly "hump" backed
Broad, stong point
Butt of knife is more equal with front of handle

Classic:
Handle is slightly "sway" backed
Finer, sharper point
Butt has a more "flared" feel to it

As far as the lock-up...It is MUCH more secure than a liner lock.
Hope that helps.

PWork pretty much covered what I was going to say. I've owned a small regular and my small classic woody and after having both I slightly prefer the classic over the regular (disregarding the fact that my classic is a wood inlay and judging only on handle/blade shape) I find it to feel just as secure, but I also find it slightly more comfortable to unlock due to the larger cutout. No matter which you pick I seriously doubt you could be dissapointed.

It all comes down to what you like, either way you cant go wrong. It might also come down to what you can find in stock from a dealer, or you could order one from chris but be prepaired for a 2 to 3 month wait.

I like the small classic, especially with an inlay, but my plain large regular is my fav by far. It looks and feels better.

For some reason the large Classics with wod inlays are my favorite sebbies. I have a couple of large woods in the regulars and also enjoy carrying them. But when it comes to day to day carry I'm more likely than not to have a large wood inlaid classic in my pocket.

I go for the regular design myself. I've got a small regular Sebbie and really love it. As to the locking system, I am completely confident that it will remain secure under any circumstances.

IMO regular handle has better ergos but prefer the classic blade.Dont fret; the lockups are like a bank vault & will not fail.Buy one then sell/trade for the other (then eventually end up owning too many)

First off, the lock WON'T come unlocked. I haven't found a framelock that beats a Sebenza(regular or classic) for strength in lockup!

I've owned at least one of every model Sebbie to inclulde wood inlayed. For every day use and utility type chores, including field dressing animals, I'd go with the large regular. Ergonomically and for finer detailed work to include the possibility of self defense, go with the large classic. This is the knife I carry every day and it works for me. The handle just seems to lock into my hand(in forward and reverse grip).

As nice as they are, I'd stay away from wood inlay Sebenza's if you are going to use your knife hard.(Boy am I gonna get it on this one).
I only say this because as solid as wood Sebbie's are, there is always that possibility of damaging the wood. You'd be pretty disappointed if something were to happen to that 4 or 5 hundred dollar knife. Save the wood inlay for minor stuff, show, or dress carry. This is from experience. I had a WIS(wood inlayed Sebenza) damage incident.

If it's at all possible for you to handle one large classic and regular Sebbie's before purchase, I'd do it. But most dealers won't mind an exchange if you should change your mind on which model. My personal preference is go with the large Classic. I think you will like it.

Hope my babble helps.

Prior to purchasing my one and only Sebenza, I handled all four of the Sebenzas from friends, large and small, classic and regular.

Everyone is different and we all have differing tactile feel. I went with the Small Classic because the Classic felt better in my hand and the small was plenty big for my hands which are Medium Large.

I felt as if I had to reach a little more than usual for the thumbstud on the Large, not that it was a pain in the hand/ass. Plus the Small Sebbie just fits in my front pocket of my pants with ease as an EDC. The large Sebbie is a bit longer, especially when I"m sitting down. I could easily wear the large in my rear pocket with ease and if this is what you prefer, go for it.

Good luck and enjoy whatever Sebenza you purchase.
