Hi there fellow CRK people, have a quick question about the Regular Sebenza I just purchased. This one is from 2007 and has no back grooves. Is this how they suppose to be in later years or...
Also knife is brand new uncarried and unused and lock is very sticky.Did put some graphite but is just a little better.
Any help appreciated,thanks.

Don't use graphite. Take it apart, clean and use crk grease for proper performance. The earlier regulars IIRC had the grooves on the sides like you mentioned. If lock is still very sticky after that. They can recarburize it for free.

I believe the lined grooves on the spine of the handles were only on the 2002 and earlier models. I've had a few Regulars with a little lock-stick since they were new. All I did was send it to CRK and it was resolved. Not really sure what they did to fix it though.

I would try and clean that lock face though. Getting some CRK lube on that lock face sometimes do that as well. It might just be dried lube.

I did take it apart, cleaned and lubed.Very smooth action but sticky still.Put some CRK grease on the lockface and still sticky.Maybe needs breakin in time?Lock up is around 30-40 %.Will try to open and close many times and if it's still sticky send it to CRK.Apparently knife was never used since new.

Tried that too and will give it some time breaking in and then probably send to CRK if still sticky.

Not sure what it is about the Regulars(some of my 21s too), but all the ones ive had, have had lock stick to some extent. Its not been a problem for me though. I dont mind a little bit...feels like the lock is actually "seating" into place for extra snugness:)

^^^ I find that happens too with a number of my large Regulars.

Ice Man's explanation of the grooves is the way I understand it as well. I do have one kind of interesting mystery with one of my knives related to grooves that I need to take some pics to illustrate.

Regulars always seem to be a little sticky. I always took it apart to clean and when I did, I rubbed some pencil on the lockbar face. Problem solved. I still feel the Large Regular Sebenza is the greatest folding knife ever designed.

Did they carburize the lock bar omn the regulars back then. Or was that started with the 21. Anybody know. Either way I'd carry either or. Just curious.

I've got a 2003 LH Web-Sight that has the milled grooves, so maybe after 03 they stopped ?

I carried and used mine today and to be honest really did not care anymore for a sticky lock.Yes it is harder on the thumb but shear pleasure of finally owning and using one is amazing.Really love the blade shape,so much different than 21.In the hand regular is also more comfortable to handle and cut stuff.Amazing knife.Glad I finally pulled the trigger :).

Agreed. I have both a large and small PJ Regular; I also love the blade shape, the handle design, everything about it. The large Regular also feels a bit better than my large 21's in the hand. I wish all my CRK's were Regulars. :)

Also, no sticky lock problems on either of my Regs.
