Hello Gents,
I'm new to Blade Forums so please forgive me if I'm posting this in the wrong place. I just wanted to know if anyone know's why the Regular Sebenza was discontinued? I'm so frustrated by this. I've carried a regular Sebenza every day for the past 4 or 5 years. I'm a musician so I travel a lot and it has gotten me out of more than a few jams when I've needed it on the road. Long story short, I played a show a couple weeks ago and after we loaded out I noticed my knife was missing. I'm fairly certain it fell out of my pocket on stage and whoever found it kept it. I've been heartbroken about it and wanted to replace it immediately. Problem is, Chris Reeve doesn't make the Regular profile anymore. I could buy the 21, but I don't want the 21! I know I sound like a little kid throwing a temper tantrum. I've talked to a few people that made it sound like I'm not alone on this. Why doesn't CRK continue to offer multiple profiles so that the customer can choose what they want?

Sorry for whining. I haven't gotten over the heart break yet. If anyone is looking to get rid of a regular let me know.

Shakes head. Don't know how to respond aside from saying that the 21 is a fine knife. You can find a regular if you want one. This thread might very well belong in the CRK forum.

Cheers.

Look on ebay or check the for sale forums regularly if you really want it that badly, eventually one will show up. I really don't think getting the $8 chinese knock off is going to be your answer. That's like losing a $4000 Rolex and then getting a $40 knock off to replace it.

I can not imagine losing one on my Sebenzas.

Was yours a small or large Regular?

The Chris Reeve Annual Editions have the same form factor as the Regulars, plus they have some nice inlays, more pricey, but beautiful.

I send you 2 vis. messages about where to find regular sebs large and small now.

How in the heck did this turn into a "Sebenza vs It's piece of crap china knockoff" thread:confused::p

I'm sure the OP does not give a crap about a knockoff, and will try to find the knife he wants. I don't think he's worried about price, just the fact they don't make such a fine model any longer.

To the OP...keep and eye on the exchange and the Bay. They will cost more than a new Classic or 21, but like you, I think the Regular is the bomb. You will find one if you stay on it. I've looked for a few certain knives for a year or longer before I found them.
It won't take you near that long to find a Regular, but I do understand your frustration that you can't get one right away.

From reading this I can't understand why anyone would think he was intrested in anything other than a large Regular Sebenza. You can tell he really really loves the large regular sebenza. I could be wrong but feel certain he does not want a knockoff....I don't bet, but would on this one:p

I am a musician also, so I felt compelled to mention it.

Oh my bad, didn't realize you musicians could read each other so well:p

cwfour, welcome to Bladeforums! I moved your question to the Chris Reeve Knives forum, then saw the thread drift, and ridiculous comparison to a cheap knife that isn't worth the box a Sebenza comes in. I am going to move the off-topic posts out of here and back to General Knife Discussion, and leave you with the real advice.

I am sorry about your loss, and I hope you find a replacement soon.

The plain TI regular sebenza is a real working mans knife. I find it to be stronger built and you really hear the clank when it locks up.
I find it to be the perfect size too.

That was pretty bad as was pointed out....

I am sure ther OP should be able to find what he is looking for as there should be some still around.

Sorry for your loss
If you are looking for the plain reg Seb. you will need to watch the exchanges and Ebay to find one-should not be all that hard.
If you are interested in a computer graphic or unique graphic a couple dealers still have a very limited selection

Thanks for the warm welcome Esav and for moving the post! Ken44 you're right. I'm only interested in the large Regular Sebenza but freq I do appreciate the thought and recommendation. Clockman I just messaged you back. Thanks everyone for the feedback. I'm still not sure while the regular was discontinued in the firstplace. I would understand it if the 21 was the next evolutionary step or if major improvements were made. But it seems to be just another, slightly different style. Why not offer them both? I know they're both incredible knives but people obviously prefer one over the other. The differences are subtle but subtleties can make a huge difference to those who are intimately familiar with the knife.

Ironically, the 21 is the original Sebenza design. It was replaced by the Regular, then brought back alongside it as the Classic MM (2000).

Not exactly an answer, simply a pointer: now at you are shopping for a replacement perhaps check out the relatively recent Insingo variant with a different blade style.

I have never heard the story of why they stopped making the regular. From what I understand they were selling about the same amount of regulars as classic MM. I know the classic MM was dicontinued for the 21 which was to honor their 21st year. I don't know if I have a real favorite betwwen the classic MM/21 and the regular, but I always enjoyed having the choice. If anyone knows why the regulars were discontinued I would like to hear about it.

.. If anyone knows why the regulars were discontinued I would like to hear about it.

My understanding is that it was simply a cost thing. Producing two similar but different concurrent "Sebenza" lines was financially prohibitive, especially after the Umnumzaan was introduced. CRK went with the one that was closest to the Original.

Thanks
That makes sense

I too know of someone in Raleigh NC who has a stock pile of CRK, including the 21 NIB. This guy has CRK's he doesn't even know he has. Anyway, I know he has one. Let me know and I'll hook you guys up. He's a solid guy.
