Regular 'traction scallops' - how do you like them?

Regular users, help me understand. I realize that everyone who has one really likes the regulars. I get it with the blade shape.....I love it, but I can't wrap my mind around those little traction scallops on the bottom of the handle (near the front of the slabs) I've never held a Regular, so I am totally naive about these legendary folders. To my eyes those scallops look like they'd be plain uncomfortable. How do they feel in the hand? Was it a good design idea, or do they just look cool?

You mean the ones around the lockbar unlock area and the mating side correct.......??? If so, they are comfortable and give good grip. Take it from someone who HAS and HAS USED TONS of Large & Small Regular Sebenzas. I have used my large regulars and have held them so tightly to where the lockbar went to the other side and never felt like they dug in or were uncomfortable in any way.........btw, using a sebenza and holding it so tightly to where the lockbar touches the other side is not an issue, I even asked Chris himself. As soon as its disengaged, it goes back to the normal 50% lockup....... Everything about the regular is pure perfection. I have always said its the finest folding knife ever made.

I like the Regulars, I really do...

But I think the 25 feels better in hand. The 21/Classic vs the regular is kind of a wash, for me.

LOL LOL!! Sorry Cody, your description of the profile on the "Regular" struck me as funny!! Believe me they are awesome knives.. not only are they IMHO the best looking design (there are really only two designs on the Sebenza) well maybe three now that the 25 is out. As Nyefmaker said in his response they are great in the hand. When I say there are only two..now three designs on the Sebenza you have to understand that the Orignal, Classic, and 21 are really the same design with refinements. Really the 25 is kind of a throwback to the "Regular" but not nearly as ascetically pleasing. And of course it has all the latest "up grades" but the popularity of the "Regular" is not just nostalgic... of course you and I both know that the pinnacle of CRK IMHO is the Zaan..:D

Always happy to amuse (and sometimes worried people take me too seriously). Thank you for your answer! 'Yes' to your comment on the Zaan. It's great. The only improvement I could say on the 2008 model, is that I agree with CRK decision to extend the lock-bar tab to make closing the knife a little easier with cold, sore, or gloved hands. Other than that....its fantastic (at least until I own a Regular I guess?).

Back to the regular......do you think you could saw through anything with the scallops in a "survival situation" :D

Absolutely! I have one that I sharpened on the wicked edge that will saw through a Redwood! But its tough to hold on to..:D In all seriousness if you get the opportunity the "Regular" Sebenza is a fantastic knife!
All the best,

They are very comfortable and well rounded/finished. Nice grip and the gentle curve of the handle allow my fingers to spread out and get slightly closer to the blade than with a 21.

Although I have only had my Large regular for about month I do ues it often. It is very comfortable and as MACHAVEN said it alows your fingers to spread out and get closer to the blade and I like that. Great Knife

I have a couple of large regulars, 21s and Zaans. I think the regular by far is the most comfortable of them all. I'm getting a couple more large regulars in the

next day or so.
