Hi everyone,
I'm canadian, i was wondering if someone out there can help me unscamble our legislation.

My question is about edc. What can I carry without getting in trouble?

THX

Anything that isn't a auto knife, gravity knife, push dagger or balisong. You have to be carrying without the intent to use it as a SD weapon as well, so carrying a double edge dagger probably isn't the best plan.

Anything and nothing. There is no specific restictions, other than switchblades, in the Canadian legislation. It is up to the descresion of the officer if your carry makes sense. If you are caught wandering through peoples back yards wearing a hoody and carrying a 1/2" paper cutter you can be charged. If you are in the woods camping with your family you can safely carry around a 14" camp knife. I am not sure what would be reasonable reason to carry a 42" katana so that is probably out. I normally carry 2 or three different folders with me at all times, but then I am a middle aged accountant with a long term membership in the Canadian KNifemakers Guild and known in the community.
SO the short answer is , it depends.
Hope that helps
Steve

Canadian law prohibits any knife that is deployed by a mechanical button or by centrifical force. So basically, no autos or balisongs.

However, the actual letter of the law may be interpreted differently depending on the person enforcing it. For example, AO knives are sometimes mistaken for switchblades, and there is a chance that a police officer might want to confiscate it from the owner. But as long as you're not doing anything stupid with your knife, or getting arrested for some other reason, I think you'd be alright.

And why is this not in the correct forum.

The general discussion forum is for the discussion of knives. Not laws.

Please read the guidelines at the top of the general discussion forums.

Moved where this belongs.
