I know these are both Dogs but hey, I have to post it somewhere :D

Ive had these two blades for a while now and whenever I go into the woods and only want to take one blade that can do it all it always comes down to a choice between these two.

Both have been modified a bit, I santinized and convexed the SOD. For the Regulator I took off the upper guard, convexed the edge and gave the whole grind a true mirror finish while leaving the spine with a rougher finish for a nice contrast.

These are both fantastic knives and after a head to head comparison today I still can't decide which one to take when I go out.

1.) Chopping- Both are larger blades that are too small to be dedicated choppers and too large to be dedicated utility knives, but for their size both were impressive in the chopping department. All I had was my blackberry so I didn't take many pics but here you can see what 40 chops with each looks like. They have more or less the same chopping ability. I repeated this about 5 times and got the same result with each attempt. This is very hard wood and both performed admirably. I did the same thing with the Junglas to see how a dedicated chopper compared and while it blew through the wood much faster, I was incredibly impressed with how well they chopped for being so much smaller. I might give the SOD the edge in chopping because it is more front heavy and feels more like a chopper than the Regulator.

2.) Finer Work- I can't say exactly which I like better but I think the regulator has and edge because of the handle shape. While for chopping bare handed I think the busse basic handle wins in the comfort department, for non chopping activities I like the length and roundedness of the Reg's handle. Also the choil on the Regulator, while not as good as a true rounded choil, is more usable than the flat choil of the SOD. For being .28 and .333 thick, but cut hella well after giving the edges come work and are more than suitable for bushcraft type activities. The Regulator is also perfectly balanced, as opposed to the front heavy SOD which makes it more favorable for light work.

3.) Little things- Res C is THE BOMB. Seriously after extended chopping with both my hand felt fine and the shock from hitting hard wood was minimal compared to micarta or G10 scales. Also I really think both these handle designs are excellent, no hot spots and both allow for great control. The tip of the regulator is 100 times better at penetrating than the SOD, I really saw the difference when I would stick the knife into a log to take a rest from chopping. The Regulator's tip sinks into hard wood like it's butter. I also think the regulator would make a fantastic combat knife.

Great work on the blades. I just couldn't get into the regulator- was too thick for me.

Seeing your pics of the Reg makes me want one again!!!
With those two side by side I wonder what the Reg would be like with the SOD handle???

Thanks for the comparison. I really like what you've done to the blades, they look great!
