Rehandling a Cold Steel

I have a Cold Steel Peace Keeper I dagger in Carbon V that is a factory second. I'd like to rehandle it in leather of some kind, for a sort of medieval feel, but I'm wondering how easy it is to cut the original Kraton handle off of it. Or even if I should; they don't make this knife in Carbon V anymore. Any input for a first-time knife modder would be greatly appreciated.

Do a search for "flat ground SRK" and look at the tang on that blade. I forget who, but someone here stripped off a handle on a SRK and flat ground the sucker! You can get an idea of what the tang should look like. Stripping off the kraton shouldn't be all that hard. Just don't get things too hot or you can run the risk of removing the temper from the blade.

Good Luck! Customizing knives is fun.

Just take a razor blade or an X-acto knife and cut a split lengthwise down the Kraton grip and it will peel right off.

I would not worry about devalue on the knife.....after all, there are still plenty to be had.

That person who took off the rubber handle and flat ground the SRK is me. I still havent put any handle on it, however.
