ok i don't know if this should go here or in a section for knife makers but this is for an already existing knife

ok picture this a sebenza. ok now i know what your thinking that's a grail knife it cannot be improved well get ready for a MIND EXPLOSION

take a sebenza's blade then reheat treat it (which with my little knowledge i believe you can do to cpm s30v) and get an intricate possibly flame hamon on it or an elegant hamon either way

plus this would take cris reeves comparatively soft s30v and maybe bring it up to spyderco hardness or even strider hardness that should better edge retention and still have the blade nice and tough on the upper part of the blade cause it would still be soft there

lemme know what you think. and i would love to know price estimates from those more knowledgeable than myself

oh and yes i know i just blew your mind but pick up the pieces and duct tape it back into your skull so we can get a sweet discussion going here

Have you looked at Steve's knives?

When a guy who does a lot of metalwork of the kind you're asking about tells you something you might want to listen.

Some steels take a hamon well, others do not. With a finished blade you're going to have to draw it down and then start all over again. This is not always a good idea either, as some steels change (a lot) every time you heat them. You'd be better off just having a new blade made to fit into your CR handle.

oh no no i hope i didnt mean to sound like i was at all being rude or know it all ish or disrespectful in any way yes i did just look at your work and this is why i asked, to get people who know far more than i to educate me.

i think i got a little exited and didnt think it through because i would imagine warping would be problematic and i didnt know s30v doesn't take a hamon

however for curiosity's sake what do you think it would take to make this happen

thank you for your time and i hope you enjoy the rest of your day

I'd imagine carbon steel would be necessary. Only time I'd ever seen anything similar to a hamon line on stainless would be on laminated ZDP-189 or VG-10.

hmm a zdp sebbie would be sweet shoot if its carbon maybe m390 or s90v or s110v etc that would be sick

although you could probably just get like a river of fire for cheaper and that would look way better
