So yesterday I walked in to REI to spend my little dividend and I walked out with a new pack. It's the Camelbak Fourteener 24. I wasn't necessarily looking for a pack (although I was considering a Kelty Redwing 50L), but I was really drawn to this thing for some reason. I really like the layout and the back panel seemed very cool. Your back actually sits a full inch off the main body of the pack so ventilation on this thing should be exceptional.
The two side strech pockets are very deep and I like that; no fear of anything falling out. The front pocket is smartly laid out with organization for pens, notebook, multitool, knife, flashlight, etc. The quick-access fleece-lined pocket is also deeper than most packs as well, leaving plenty of room for more than just sunglasses. The stretch overflow pocket in front seems very handy as well. The only negative I can find so far is that the hip belt sits just slightly higher than what I would prefer and since this pack is not adjustable for length and only comes in one size there's nothing I can really do about it.
I'm probably going to make this my "Get Home Bag" and leave it in the Jeep packed with emergency/contingency gear. The pack I have in there now is by Diamondback Tactical and I absolutely love that thing, however, I realize it would probably be best to stick with a more low-profile bag if things go south.
Anyway, I'll post more photos and show you guys the inside of this thing once I get it dialed in and set up with my gear. Its just stuffed with a pillow right now.
Here's some older photos of the pack that currently rides in the Jeep. Had it for over 5 years now. Made in America and simply bombproof. Since it also serves as my hunting pack it has seen some serious woods time and it still barely shows any signs of wear. But, you can see why I wanted something a little more low-key for the vehicle...
