Any chance that this can happen. Threads seem to be pretty well buried in just a few days and if your item doesn't sell quickly, it's lost. Any chance of a reinstate and moderate those that abuse the rule by spamming the for sale threads?

Where would you draw the line between use and abuse?

I think it would take a full time paid moderate to curtail the would be bump abusers.

Prognosis: doubtful.

Fred Miranda, the photo website has a btt button that resets every 24 hours and comments don't "bump" the thread. The current method really does a disservice to sellers. Any way to implement a btt button that auto resets after 24 hours?

How would this keep threads from being buried?
Every 24 hours.you would have the same posts bumped burying the threads below and possibly at an even faster rate.
If 50 posts were bumped between 6:00-6:10 am, what would the first 2-3 pages look like?
Answer: The same ads I would see day in and day out...

Keep the post system the way it is.
If I want a knife, I do a search and shoot an email/PM to see if it is still available.
If I want to sell a knife, I abide by the rules and put a link in my sig...
These rules treat everyone equally and not favor those with the time to spare to bump a thread daily...

To address the point made about it doing a "disservice to sellers", most people here aren't just "sellers" and if you are, you need to buy a dealer membership.
Most here are congregating around a hobby and some for work. Those that supplement their income via knife sales pay a premium to do so.

The bump idea was just a suggestion and it doesn't seem to be a problem on other forums. Also, I have no desire to become a dealer. You can't deny that buying AND selling are very big parts of the hobby, not always for profit. We don't always click with our purchases and need to free up funds for other items.

With regard to your method of finding what you want or selling your items, you're saying... if I would like to buy a knife that you're selling I would have to see your for sale thread within the first few days of your listing OR, happen to come upon a random post that you've responded to to see your signature? That doesn't seem very efficient to me. I'm just looking for a more efficient method than the current one. Two weeks is a long time to bring a for sale thread back from the depths, with no guarantee that it will remain on the front pages for more than a day when you resurrect it.

As NJBillK indicated, as a seller -- being at least a Gold member -- you get a sig line. You can post and link your available sales there for more exposure.

Many sellers see the current system working for them. If it isn't working for you, read other sales threads. Polish your wording, gradually lower your prices. Post clear pictures and list dimensions.

The chances of seeing the old system here again are very small.

Interesting. The forum software looks a little painful to navigate. As for the current method, it does work. The problem is that people don't do enough to get their items sold and buyers are a little too trigger happy at times. Some of the problems:

No pictures or really bad pictures of the items.
Inaccurate or incomplete descriptions of the items.
Signature space is wasted on about 90% of sales threads.
Pricing information is inaccurate.
Poor presentation over all.

That is just when things go sideways, and not representative of all or even most deals here. I'd imagine the "BTT Button" would require some kind of forum upgrade to yet another different software platform than the one currently used. I agree with Esav's observation, the likelihood of going backwards to a method that did not work at all and was abused may not be a good move. If there was a simple way to get this implemented without additional costs or work for the owner than it might be a consideration.

Bumping wil still move your thread up in the "latest posts" or "unread" method of viewing. Which is probably how most people look.

I didn't even realize that the BTT was gone until after I posted my item for sale. I guess I'll have to do more preparation before I sell. Thanks for the responses.

Putting it in your signature and participating in the discussion forums is great exposure!

Sorry for the delay in responding, but this post has slipped my mind.

You seem to have missed or forgotten about one significant part of my post to which you responded.
In fact, it is the only way I mentioned the buying of a knife.

This is the Most efficient way of finding a particular knife for sale.
If you want a Spyderco Gayle Bradley 1 with milled liners, go to th sales>production folders sub and do a search in that section for "Gayle Bradley 1, milled" and see what pops up.

I would be willing to bet that 95% of the posts will be selling a GB and 80%+ will have a GB1 for sale or want that particular knife in trade.
